So, for a simple app, how much would this cost to dev?

Needs to have a neat simple interface, determine current location using GPS, and include that in the post they create.

all posts to be visable by all other users with app installed

thoughts?

this is an answer to you and every single other person who asks this question every 2 days.

here's what you do. write down your requirements. all of them. maybe mockup each screen and the flow of the thing. spend time on it. maybe use a trello board or a diagram tool or whatever.

think about the post. what does it have? a userid? a description? does it have a title? can i post pictures or video? can i use my camera? define it. a post can be a facebook post or a forum post or a letter in the mail. which is nearest to your needs.

what is a neat interface? i like gmails interface i think it's neat. so can i use gmails interface for this? or do you have some other definition of neat that you'd prefer

maybe list apps you've seen that are kinda similar or websites you know that are sort of similar or maybe you just like the flow or the look or something.

then post that pdf or diagram or whatever it is and let people take a look and get back to you

the better your requirements and the better your drawing and mock ups the better your responses will be.

my companys web app does similar stuff to what you have currently listed, they're vaguely sort of familiar in terms of requirements so far. we are paying around half a million rand for ours. so based on what you've given me so far that's about the most accurate quote i can give you.

with updated requirements and a better idea of what is needed im sure we will discover our apps are dissimilar and so are their prices

Hi!

I'd like an app built that will rival facebook - my budget is R1500.00
PS: must have frikkin' sharks with frikkin' lasers attached to their frikkin' heads

Thanks!

If this is a general consumer app and not an extension for a service that already has users, and you want to make money off of it, then development cost is not your biggest concern, marketing is.

dangerous? like that time i checked in on facebook at the pizza place and then ninjas appeared?

Slight difference between explicitly giving your course location, and automatically having your GPS co-ords exposed every time you post.

Perhaps this guys application warrants the exact location? Perhaps it has something to do with geocaching? Or perhaps a hiking application. Don't jump to assumptions on security when you don't know the applications market.

I mean when you take pictures on most smart phones images are embedded with coords you can either set it off or remove the exif data.

The common true metric is that an app dev cost is the same cost of a car...
