Android apps too expensive says Canalys

Uhm, I think this is very misleading.

First most of the 99c apps that is in the Apple app store has a free equivalent in the Android app market. I think just because they dont have a lot of 99c apps doesn't me that Android is more expensive. They should go compare the same software/ or equivalent and not the top 100 paid apps in my opinion.

This.

IMO the Android Apps are cheaper.

I pay less for the Apps on my Android phone than for the Apps on my iPod Touch 4th Gen.

What a joke of an article. Obviously an Android hater who knows nothing. At least on Android, when an app is free, it is free and not limited to trial usage like on iOS

This market research firm just lost credibility.
They are comparing apples with oranges.
If you are going compare anything you need to compare the cost of same apps on the two platforms.
It's like comparing the top 100 items sold at Pick and Pay with the Top 100 at game and make a call about which store is cheaper.

+1. Lol at this hogwash research...

Yes, this is what I thought as well. Nice comparison as well.

On apple store there are no free to try apps, yes there are free apps, but the pay ones do not have a trial version for a limited time.

Also if you are unhappy with the app, there is no refund policy.

So they have to be cheap to convince the isuckers (and I used to be one) to buy and then nail them on in-app purchases.

The Android market, you get time based trials and you get a 7 day refund period, and so you know what you are getting, and can comfortably warrant your purchase.

Angry Birds is an interesting one, it's free with the extra stuff on Android but has very annoying ad banners. You have to pay for the same* version on the iPad.

* Not sure if there is an HD version out for Android? If not, then I'd imagine that's one reason it could be a paid-for product.

There is a refund policy on IOS I have used it many times. Personally I think 90% of the free apps (not games so much) on android are utter crap. Most of them don't fit on the screen properly making the big screen utterly pointless. Everything wants to install itself into memory.

The quality control on iOS ensures a much better overall quality of app. I find I am using my iPhone, which was supposed to be my secondary phone, much more than my note, purely because its more reliable and it works properly.

Agreed, my biggest gripe was accidentally buying iPhone apps and then having to go through a lengthly mail trail to get it reversed. The Store could do with more customer friendly trialling/purchase options. I will admit, I use installous to 'trial' a lot of stuff out there but if it does what I needed to do, I buy it.

The policy hasn't seemed to affect the company much though if you look at the share prices. What is the revenue from the Store vs Market Place?

I have found that the physics are not the same between the two versions either. Somehow the game is easier on Android. There is also a bannerless paid version for the droid, not sure what it's like tho.

Yea that's true. Tho I only ever had to follow up on one refund, the rest where done without a question.

Having played both games on both platforms I agree except I much prefer the HD version, not to mention it's ability to sync with Game Centre.

I wasn't so lucky with the $19.99 QuickOffice HD. I wanted on app to put a document together. I chose QuickOffice Pro HD based on user ratings. Get in and discover that I cannot add images to a document (something imperative when putting a manual together with screenshots) I mail them but to no avail and chalked the cost up to schoolfees, hence the reason for me using Installous to try before I buy.

Did you lodge it via the iTunes store? Apple can force a refund for you if the vendor is non cooperative.
