Android apps, what free ones would you suggest?

Most of the pro's on the xda developer forums strongly advise against using task killer apps like juicedefender etc, it messes around with the android OS, which manages running tasks in it's own way. And free ram is wasted ram.

Erm, Juice Defender is not a task killer... Just saying :p

But yeah I'm also against it as well, but also recommend the use of Watchdog. https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.zomut.watchdoglite

If you wanna learn more about it(Why not to kill tasks all the time) read this article http://lifehacker.com/5650894/andro...ed-what-they-do-and-why-you-shouldnt-use-them

I don't really know about the other manufacturers, but in HTC's case you don't have to root or S-Off the phone to load a custom android ROM. You unlock the bootloader via the official HTCDev website, and then you replace the standard recovery image to a 3rd party one which enables you to do the necessary to install a new android ROM.

It's all quite safe really.

There are few I may recommend and they are: Facebook for Android, Tune In Radio, Sky News, Dolphin Browser HD,Opera Browser, Aldiko(book reader).ASTRO File Manager makes your phone feel like a computer, and makes you feel like you're in charge of it.

The best app for Android ever
Should be part of the phone OS

Amazing hey? My biggest gripe is I can't connect my phone to my corporate wifi so it's useless for me at work. I'm keen to see if I can use the site on an iPad :D

What are the requirements to run AirDroid?

The AirDroid Android app should be compatible with most Android devices running Android 2.1 or later. The Web Desktop should be compatible with most modern web browsers, including IE 8 or later, Chrome 12 or later, Firefox 3.6 or later, Safari 5.0 or later. Support for mobile browsers, like Safari on iPad, is experimental.

NQ Mobile Manager - for blocking calls and sms's
Record my call - nice free app to record your calls etc
History eraser - delete your browsing history
Kingsoft Office - nice free app to see MS office apps
NoLED- Low battery consumer that indicates activity ie sms/email/call etc
Navfree South Africa - Not gr8 but a good free standing when your gps isn't with you

friendcaster is a revelation after I've been using the official Facebook app for so long. Friendcaster is much much faster and in most scenarios has the better interface.
