Android / iOS App Developer Training Courses...?

Courses are a waste of time.
Depends on the person's situation and of course the instructor. Naturally if you're already proficient in a C based language and if you're proficient in more than 1 language; going to a course, will most likely result in another prolonged episode of boredom.

Except of course if I was leading the course ;) :D I have no interest in that.

I highly doubt that if you lead the course it would make any significant difference. I find courses a total waste of time and can learn much faster at just reading code of existing apps or api's.

I think books are great but sometimes when you have no idea where to start a course might be a good choice. Assuming you can afford the course, trainers usually have more to share and the human touch from other class mates always makes class room training worthwhile, but its always different for everyone. There is a list on Silicon Cape on companies offering mobile app development in Cape, here http://www.siliconcape.com/profiles/blogs/mobile-app-developers-in. Here is a short list i found using Google, Polymorph, http://www.jtraining.co.za/, Peruzal http://www.peruzal.co.za/, AppDev, http://appdev.co.za/ . There are probably more but you can add to the list

I hope i am not late for your reply, yes i have friends who attended the training there, they did find Peruzal through the Android meetup they hold monthly meetups at 88MPH. Their trainers facilitate the meetup, so i hope they do know Android well. You can also join the meetup here meetup.com/Cape-Town-Android-Development-Training

Apologies for digging up such an old thread. I'm shopping around for some Android training and this was one of the links that came up during my searches on the net. I'll be getting some of the recommended books, but would like to also do a course or two if available.

I'm based in Cape Town and also found a company based here which gives Java and Android training, http://www.peruzal.co.za/

Does anybody have any experience with them? Or could anybody recommend other companies that would give the same kind of training. I have a little bit of Java experience, but it's stagnated for about 5 years now, so I'll want to do a Java refresher as well, which Peruzal also offers.

Any comments would be greatly appreciated!

I think it was mentioned in another similar thread. I very much agree Coursera is a very nice way to learn stuff. Since I discovered them, I am pretty much doing some or other of their courses all the time.
