I hope this is the right place for this,

I'm looking for recommendations for a Media Player for my Dad, he is in his 70's and not the most technically savvy person.

I'm looking for a media player that has Google Certifications and USB ports he can use to watch movies if needed.

UI needs to be amazingly simple and easy to use, I'm thinking Xiaomi but the Mi TV Stick we have gives occassional wi-fi connection errors and that's something I need to avoid because we stay a few hours apart.

Price: Cheap as possible right now, I'm not even sure he will use it.

Any suggestions?

Hmmm what happened to that thread with the DIY build someone did for something like this.

I have the stick and every now and then it has to be Power on/off cycled and wifi router reboot for it to connect to the internet again.

Does you Mi Box give any similar issues?
Only once had the mi stick needed to be connected to the wifi again after an update. Pretty sure you can turn off automatic updates. Haven't looked into it.

I have both too. Mi Box is far more stable than the Mi Stick and the countless reboot cycles I have to go through on the stick.

Get one with shortcut buttons for major apps. My folks struggled with the Skyworth Binge because it had no shortcut buttons. They basically found it to intimidating to use it.

They got the Mistick recently and they all I had to do was tell them press the Netflix button if you want Netflix or the Amazon Prime button if they want to watch Amazon prime and they off using the device in their own

I have a Mediabox Maverick. Pretty easy to set up & use & it has Google voice support on the remote, but I would suggest getting something with an air mouse or a Rii mini keyboard.

Thanks all,

Going to look at a MI box, Emantic or maverick and take from there,

Appreciate all the input

I just went through this exercise, and will probably be lambasted, but here goes. Get an AppleTV. I was trying to configure an android (Ematic) box and the hassle with sideloading, or trying to get Kodi working (plus the interface is not easy for those with technological issues), plus they wanted BBC iPlayer, eventually, we just gave up, gave them our old AppleTV, loaded with Netflix, Hulu, Disney+ and a few other things they wanted and they have cut the dSTV cord and are not struggling at all.

Correct - there was a thread a while back where someone built a raspberry pi solution iirc for an elderly person with alzeimhers. It had NFC or some such on the dvd box and then they'd tap it on the scanner, and the media player would select the corresponding movie (mp4 etc) and play it.

Also thought if finding a used AppleTV, their UI is just so simple and easy to use, I just don't want to buy something outdated...

Edit:

Or spend a small mountain of cash on a white elephant
