Stands to reason, fragmented firmware versions and a large number of hardware variances. Not to mention the huge percentage of low end handsets being bought by ignorant customers as a first smartphone and ripe for hackers and spammers.

Easy pickings.

With iOS having having just about the same market share, it does show android up for being the most insecure mobile OS out there.

In Windows' case, it's simply a matter of it being the only real consumer desktop OS.

Well hackers tend to go for moire bang for their buck, so I doubt fragmentation plays any role here, if it did they would have to write more variations on their code to cover all the bases. The mere fact that they don't need to, shows that said fragmentation is just iOS users excuse to bad mouth the eco system.

But I do agree that seeing that Android covers all bases means that all walks of life create entry points. Grandma and alike that simply click yes to install crap without checking the permission requirements make it a ripe playing field. What I do find funny however is with all this talk about malware people keep on forgetting that its always Mac's and iPhones that fall 1st at security conferences.

Simply saying do not let just numbers/stats make you think your world is secure, it goes deeper than that.

Edit: Alos funny that they claim Open Source is the reason that Android is more vunrable, maybe the auther should go read http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Security_through_obscurity

And note that the worlds most secure OS's are all open source.
