Hi

I am new to andriod and cant figure out how the multitasking works on Android 2.2.1...

I am particularly concerned about GTalk, Skype, Mail app. When these apps get minimised, do they still consume data? I use these apps when connected to my wifi, but do not want them be connected when I am away from my Wifi.
With iOS I can just kill the apps easily... Can this be done with Android?

I read that an App killer isnt the right way of doing this.

any help is appreciated

Well best guess would be to get Tasker and set up jobs to kill those apps and make sure they dont run when you leave the WiFi area. It can also be set to start them right back up when you get home or have WiFi connectivity.

Or you can manually kill them, I use Watchdog to kill running apps, also make sure you dont have widgets for the apps you dont want on the screen as they will start the app again.

Running a task manager to kill apps for data or CPU use is different than running one to kill all apps running just because they use up memory, so dont be afraid to use ones that single out applications.

No matter what i did i couldnt stop my galaxy from using airtime...
I now use an apn widget wich switches off the internet until i need it again...
This means it doesnt fetch emails or facebook updates on its own anymore... Have to switch the apn back on and refresh...
Works for me...

I turn off data via phone settings... I had a nasty shock whereby I had my phone devour R50 airtime in a few hours (it burned through data buddles and everything ).

I'm now pretty paranoid about when I let the phone connect to the net :p, but wife is abundant, so that solves me problems... mostly.

Only thing though... Apparently my phones downloaded 300MB of data since June 20th... hmmm, that's pretty heavy :/
