Android Pie removes call recording ability

Just a heads up.

As part of the master race *cough* Oneplus 6 owner *cough*, I installed Pie today. :sneaky: Unfortunately the call recording ability has been removed in Android 9 also known on the street as Pie. This is due to the privacy or something.:(

If this is the case I am dead happy with previous versions of Android and would have no more interest in future versions. Now I am even more glad I just bought that Motorola Nexus 6, which is no longer supported for future updates to the OS. Call recording is critical for me.

All the articles i have read regarding this points to if you root your phone, you can install an app that will use root access and will be able to record calls.

Makes sense, with root you can flash updates that change/enhance OS code, or developer your own app to intercept both mic and audio stream. I actually use AirAudio with root to stream music via Airplay as it intercepts the audio stream.

Won't rooting your phone prevent things like the FNB app to work properly.

In case you need it:

Best call recorder I found is Call Recorder - ACR
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.nll.acr

It even work with the bluetooth headset I'm using (Astrum). The pro key was on special for R16.

I tried ACR a couple of years ago when I really needed it, but it only worked like half the time. I don't know if it's improved or not since then. I actually still have it installed.

It works flawlessly on my Huawei P10 lite and only stopped when too many recordings were in the ACR folder.

Edit: I had too play with the settings to get it working correctly with the bluetooth

Perhaps Google is just conforming to privacy laws common to most countries? Isn't it illegal to record a conversation without the other party's knowledge or consent?
