I believe this has been a long overdue video, and Gary Sims from Android Authority has put together some very insightful videos that:

1. Explain how Android RAM Management works
2. How much RAM you really need in 2019 in your smartphone.

He also goes into detail on how different phones have their RAM structured.

Android Memory Management

How much RAM does your phone need in 2019

I don't watch videos. How these videos translate to a plain text?

I haven't watched it. But Android should have minimum 3GB. Anyhing less than 3GB slows it way down. Unless of course you use android go or something.
No, can work fine with 1GB tbh if 720p, did so until I got frustrated that I couldn't play music, reply to texts and browse at the same time. At 2GB it works fine.
Completely different story with Tizen, probably with EMUI as well.

And his comment with different categories of users is the right answer.
Stock with 3GB should cover pretty much everyone's case though.

Yap. 3GB minimum for me. I have experienced less, no thank you.

I had the same opinion on early version of Android 8. I had to limit number of background tasks to four. However there was a hudge OS update in August last year that fixed most of issues. Now Huawei Y6 with 2GB RAM is not restricted by RAM. I still wonder why I should allow more than four background tasks running. Just keep it sane, 2GB will be enough.
