Android tablet for a child

Lenovo sucks. period, they have under specced hardware for a premium.Their laptops is another story, some good, some bad, but as for tablets, they suck, they were decent a few years back, but they aren't even close to what they were before now. Teclast IS better value, crappy quality control?. You should really lay off the weed brother, teclast handily out sells levono on tablets on amazon, Chinese store fronts, like gearbest, sunksy, aliexpress ect.

It may not look it, but teclast out sells lenovo in china, it is one of the more popular brands there.......Secondly it is about price/performance, so what if has a 50 core cpu, it doesn't distract from the fact a teclast with a 50 core cpu will outlast any under specced lenovo on usefulness.

I mean lenovo charging nearly 6k for a Snapdragon 680 chipset released in 2021, versus teclast that is charging 3.7K for a helio G99 chipset released in 2022 and out specs it.

No kid needs 6-8 cores, yeah this isn't x86 cpus, or at least it use to be, now that intel added efficiency cores, you DO know how the arm works right, if you did you wouldn't have made a dumb ass comment like that, arm has been using the efficiency and performance core combination for a few years now, you do know how battery life had improved as a direct result of using the little big design in mediatek chipsets. The core count has FKall to do with it right. ?

lol

This is the closest matching tablet to my current daily driver, getting the teclast T50 pro soon. You really shouldn't buy either, as they are old, but just to prove a point.

lenovo

Teclast

Lenovo with a 1280 x 800 screen res, what year is it ? and for that price. TF ? Teclast has the entry P26T with 1280 x 800 and it is appropriately priced, For 2.5K I can do the teclast M40 pro, you shouldn't as that is the old model, but just an example, Lenovo mid range tablets suck. I mean lenovo is still trying to sell their old tab 4's, you can still get it on the amazon store fronts, as well as some others and that was released in 2017.

Lol
Lenovo wants almost 9k for a Helio G99 chipset in south africa, 5k on amazon, excluding shipping and duties

Teclast T50 pro, with the same chipset, and better specs.

Yeah no.......I wouldn't wish lenovo on my worst enemy, if you were to say huawei is your brand of choice I would agree, they are slightly overpriced, but spec and quality wise they are better..........but lenovo.......just................ no
Just to add, for non technical people, who dont want to buy crap, but dont want to overpay for something decent, who dont have your knowledge or access to someone like you, we would buy the Lenovo. It is a recognised name brand amd performs decently. I paid about R2k for the 2nd gen, maybe more, not sure now.

I never heard of the other brand so would not have taken a chance on it.

Budget R1000 for a rubber case and screen protector.

Another reason I detest lenovo, even samsung, they use some markets like ours, to dump their old stock. The tab 4 with android 7 is still readily available, samsung was selling a 2012 android 4 tablet right up to 2018, teclast isn't just some brand they are ranked 6500th+- on amazon, considering amazon has 1.9million active resellers, that is nothing to smirk about. They aren't just some company that rebrands tablets as their own, like dixon, which some people here swear by either, there is in actual fact several mybb members here with teclast tablets, or lesser known brand tablets, that would testify for the price you won't get anything better.

Ironically people are so misinformed it isn't even funny, lenovo is a Chinese brand as well, no different to teclast, just because they are more known they are some how less evil, well to the outside world at least, there are over 10 million teclast users in china alone.Lenovo does pretty good in the PC market and is one of the largest PC manufactures, but when it comes to tablets not so great, blackview is a even lessor known brand compared to teclast, and that is only because they have a local presence here, if teclast were to do they same you wouldn't give it a second thought. Chuwi, doogee, blackview and teclast, is the 3 major brands that have in recent years, gained popularity worldwide.

Yes some brands you will run into issues, because of the lack of having a local agent, but that will change once amazon is finally operating here and makes returns easier. Doogee, blackview, chuwi and teclast when it comes to price/performance, for a mid range tablet you can't beat them. I am tired of being charged a premium of a few grand between getting a 64gig and 128gig version of a device, looking at u samsung, huawei and apple.

The even greater irony is that all these brands I have mentioned use some of the same off the shelve components as the big boys, there is only 5 memory chip manufactures and 4 fabless manufactures, there is also only a hand full of IPS and LCD display manufactures as well, even less when it comes to touch panel displays, it is a pretty good bet your off brand tablet has the same or similar display as other known brands. Which i find even more annoying when people start swearing by a specific brand. The only reason I am against buying lenovo tablets is because they use older hardware and price it at a premium and a lot of their specs are completely nerfed when comparing to a similar device of the same class and their housing on the lower and mid range in most cases being plastic is a no go for me.

Having easy access to buy, claim warranty and support, doesn't make it better, it makes it convenient and popular. It's like LG, who use to be goldstar before they rebranded, a salesman couldn't sell a gold star branded electronic device if their life depended on it, look at them now, you don't give them a second thought right.

Lastly I think the stigma that Chinese electronics is bad, is due to the fact that for a long time, they had manufacturing issues especially when it came to capacitors as for a couple of years they had issues with the raw materials being used to manufacture them. This has long since changed having tier 2 or 3 capacitors on less essential components hardly gets penalized these days. Yes there is still crap that gets out into the world, if you were to google, blackview, chuwi, doogee and teclast they will have just as many results, reviews ect as the rest. The excuses of the none technically minded people are going to buy brands they know is an old hat excuse, perhaps with the old guard still, but the current generation, with access to information and online shopping, product reviews I am hard pressed to say, they haven't been exposed to other brands on some level, seen a review. If you can damn well choose between AMD and nvidia, Xbox, PS, WII, steam deck, samsung or apple, or LG, and your next flagship phone upgrade, why would a tablet be foreign and greek all of a sudden it doesn't compute. You can look up a brand in less than 5 seconds. It's a lazy excuse, considering how widely accessible tech is and at what age people have been introduced to tech these days. I am hard pressed to say any person under 40 doesn't know any better. You don't need to know, how some thing works, just a simple matter of knowing the basics. Higher display resolution is better, more rom and ram is better, newer Operating system, metal versus plastic.

It isn't complicated, going by brand name because you trust them, you sure like to be screwed too. You could say I dribble a bit in anti consumerism if you want.

I am 44  . So get a free pass.

Lol :) me too :p. Just saying, if you can choose a TV based on features, you can choose a tablet based on features. Should add, I am not denying some brands have some great devices, but once you start shady business practices, like unreasonable price difference for rom space, or remove accessibility because you want to sell addons......you can fk right off, you could be the only one selling a specific device and still wouldn't buy it........

Get the cheap bubblegum 7" 4GB storage one. Then after struggling with it for a week anyone will appreciate @wizardofid s advice

The world moved forward grandpa. Why carry around a zillion books when you don't need to?

I never carried a zillion books ever.
All my books fitted in one bag with my lunch box.
One bag, I tell you.

You also did not attempt to answer the question.
You just called me a granpa like a sheep that only goes with the crowd without thinking for yourself.

Pathetic.

Those pieces of horse excrement, wouldn't even suffice as kindle for a fire.........Besides I wouldn't recommend some thing I haven't used before my self, on my second teclast device, after giving the first to a family member and soon going to get my 3rd, price/performance there isn't currently a better deal than the newly release T50 pro period., huawei does have a nice tablet under 4k, but that is still using the older snadragon 680 chipset. Chinese brands have started switching over the the helio chipset, still a bit older but faster than the snapdragon, so I wouldn't even recommend getting a tiger T series tablet at this moment as the phase out the use of the tiger series and replaces it with the helio series. That helio G99 for the price really is a banger deal

I really like the T50 but the only thing that puts me off pulling the trigger is the fact that theres very little software updates. Is it possible to load a different ROM on it which will have more regular updates?

Just checked my tablets, both have updates, you won't get new android upgrades, but you will at least get security/software updates. Also if you can read Chinese you likely to find upgrades on baidu from 3rd parties, but unless you are 100% sure it's correct as with every device you can end up bricking it.

https://cashcrusaders.co.za/new-goods/doogee-101-tablet/stockcode23629 also won't get updates but you'll have local support. They swopped my faulty phone out for free.
As mentioned the older tiger series chipset, also isn't the best tiger chipset in the series, you can have a T616 chipset which is better.....

This is cheaper even with the shipping, for the same chipset.

With shipping the previous Gen T40 pro, works out slightly more and is still a better deal than the doogee, with a better chipset.

And sure if you don't want to deal with importing, doogee will do in a pinch, still wouldn't recommend it, considering I can get similar spec tablet for couple 100 cheaper, without shipping it is 1K cheaper, with shipping over R600 cheaper, now unless you are rich, or willing to get fleeced, I don't know of any person who would want to save a couple of 100, and it isn't like sunsky doesn't do returns, you will have to pay for shipping costs back to them but they usually refund those costs any ways.

Still you get widevine l1 and the local support that's great.

+1 For the Teclasts from Sunsky, my kids have been using theirs for exactly 2 years now, both without any issues.
