Hi People

Does anyone know where one can purchase a Android (Google Tablet) ?

I checked out the 7inch, 8Inch and 10inch versions online. They all looks pretty awesome, but where can one buy it locally ? (CPT/JHB/Durbs)

There are a few on Gumtree etc, but no one has physical stock locally

I don't think you can. There isn't really any reason any one would bring these in, as there aren't really any decent Android tablets out at the moment.

I guess you're referring to the Apad, Iped, Epad things. Most of the people selling them, import them on request. There are places in SA selling them, cheapest I've found is from Magicbox.co.za, although I doubt they're local. You order and pay, they ship it to you, and if its stopped at customs, you pay the import duties. They don't take responsibility for that.

Don't buy yet though, I saw a new model just came out, haven seen too many of them though, but this one has a built-in webcam. Thats actually what I'm looking for for Skyping etc.

The one I saw was about R1500 - R2000 I think. If you find it for cheaper, or from a more reliable place, let me know.

We will see many more of these type of things coming out in the near future. I think Samsung is bringing out a range alongside their galaxy range that might be worth it. Would love an Android pad, since I spend so much time with my phone already;-) Think I should get one, then my GF can play Text Twist Turbo on my Desire while I surf the web using my Desire as my Wi-fi hotspot for internet...could work:-)

I see there's quite a few online and they're very cheap. I checked out a couple of videos on Youtube. The screen sensitivity looks awful, and most of them come with 2GB of memory, and 128MB of RAM only. But for R1000 delivered to your door, it's well worth it. But, has anyone actually used any of these things?

I'm really considering to buy one of these, but i would prefer to get the 10inch version.

I would like to use it for Kindle (Ebooks) and Wifi-Hotspots (Surfing) and then the Odd Movie/Music (Boredom).

I am a little concerned about the Battery life of these units and the speed (some units have 450mhz and 533mhz) Battery of 2400mah and 3000mah. I mean some Android cellphones have 2500mah battery's and last 2days on "standby". I doubt these units will last 2hours to be honnest. {Bigger Screen and on for longer periods - more usage}

Let me know if anyone has used these tablets or if you find any specials :)

Thanks

i think the archos android tablet is worth it.but its abt 3-4k
we need one with 1ghz processr and 1gb ram atleast and good screen and touch support
will apps from the market work on android tabs?

I am also looking for this for my dad, he wants a netbook but I suggested something like this.

Some on ebay costs $200, but runs Android 2.2, 1GHz processor and 10 inch, really want one like this.

I will happily pay that price, but will need a local supplier.

hey i bought one of these cheap ipad clones on bid or buy. Cost R899. Was not expecting too much, but am very happy. Obviously screen not as good as desire, but very usable. Plays avi out of the box. Battery life better than expected. Probably six hours with wifi on. Just do a bit of research as their are lots of these on the market, some with slower chips etc.
