Android takes a malware beating

I don't know, I still think that I live in the "perfect world" where I don't see malware on Android, well at least my device(s).
My little cousin's had malware, from downloading the most random 1-star rated apps, but he's just 12. I think it's the reporting of the whole malware issue that sometimes paints a bleak picture.

Though I can't turn a blind eye and be a Manto Tshabalala and say "what malware? Eat beetroot and garlic", the problem is that Google's openness is fighting against them. There's malware in the Play Store, Amazon App store, AppBrain etc etc. So even though one doesn't download this malware, it still exists in large volumes. Makes it tougher for Google to control as they can't dictate to the other app store vendors on what to do

Good thing it at least gives Google reason to keep innovating and trying to reduce the "malware beatings", as long as it costs someone money, we'll see improvements.
I mean, if we're at 96% of the market share, things can't get worse, right? Going to 100% would mean that BB, iOS and the others go out of existence lol

The biggest risk with Android is not malware but the rights the legitimate apps ask for and you allow them to have. Who knows what is done with all those rights.

Scaremongering at its best by a company that makes its living from scaremongering...

In addition to SMS-sending malware, some malware authors or distributors make profit through banking trojans which steal the mobile Transaction Authentication Number (mTAN) that banks send via SMS to customers to validate an online banking transaction.

Using this number, it can transfer money from the victims’ account and the banks will proceed with the transaction because it appears to be coming from the rightful account owner.
so, with this mTAN, you suddenly have access to a person's bank details and passwords?

Anyone clicking on dodgy links & visit dodgy websites, open their computers/phones/tablets up to malware.

Does not matter which platform you use.

It's like saying : if you play with fire, you might get burn.

Couldn't agree more!
