Android TV vs Smart TV

We have a Samsung and an LG TV in the house. We also have a Telkom Lit box. It is much easier to use the TV's smart functionality, if there is an app for the TV (DStv now, ShowMax, YouTube, Plex, etc. Both the Samsung and the LG smart functionally are very good. Fast response time, reliable o operation, etc. Casting quality and effort from a phone to the TV or to the Lit box are generally the same.

The Lit box is mainly used on an old dumb TV in the braai area, if there is a good game on the telly and we are outdoors.

Any half-decent new TV does have smart functionally built in. You might as well use it...

A manufacturer isn't going to build something that gives you the ability to pirate - so that won't happen. Like I said, they make something for 95% of the market ... but you, there's Android TV / sideloading etc

And they all support Plex...and the Androids support Kodi too so really it's not even an issue.

I know - but the question was about side loading in general, so apps like Showbox etc won't work and probably never will. But I really don't think the majority of people care tbh.

But answering the original question - I personally use a Samsung Smart TV. I must have about 7 different Android TV units I've played with, as well Xbox One and HP Microserver - but my personal choice is Samsung Smart TV. It's fast, responsive, convenient and has what I need. Doesn't freeze or falter or anything.

Bear in mind these are the newer - I've had a 2009, 2014, 2016 and 2017 Samsung ... and the 2016+ work better for me
