Android Useful Apps

So I just found this app called Block-This. I have searched the forums a little bit but didn't find any info on this app.

The app is not available in the App Store, because apparently it has been banned. I can understand the reasons for banning as the first thing I noticed was that the apps that I normally use which shows a lot of ads, did not show any ads. I am not against paying for Apps if they are well worth it, but most of the time I need to fully evaluate first without being disturbed by ads.

This is what they have to say on their website "The idea was to create an Android app which is able to block as much as possible of the junk on the Internet namely ads, spam & malware, phishing sites, etc. while being 100% secure, does not collect any user data, does not put heavy load on your mobile device and works on both rooted and non rooted phones."

I was using NonRoot Firewall, but having to manually on a per App basis give permission seems a bit half-baked.

The App is free and direct link to the apk is on the block-this website.

Let me know what you think if you used it or try it out if you are interested.

Looks interesting, lots of basic spelling mistakes though, I'm a bit wary. What's the difference between free and premium?

Doesn't ask for many permissions on install but it is a vpn of sorts that can probably at the very least record every Web address you go to, seems fishy, something like a Russian spy agency app to monitor people. Doesn't mention any privacy/your data is safe/totally anonymous anywhere, which apps of this sort typically like to make very clear is the case. Seems to imply its the work of a single dev but the app seems too "let's sell a pretty picture" for a serious programmer and in the real world no one else will make an app like this except a hardcore programmer.
Looks like the 2.0 version that has autostart on boot can only be DL from the website.

I had high hopes for this app. Will do more research and wait for more feedback from crackberry.

Looking for an app that can download album art as a .jpg and save it in the folder where the songs are located. Any ideas?

On a PC, use Album Art Downloader. For an app, I think Blackplayer claims to get album art, but I haven't tried it myself.

Medical ID

Anyone using a Medical ID app on their phone?

Trying this one out at the moment: MyID – Medical ID Profile

It puts a QR code on your lock screen and the app stores your vital medical info.

My Samsung S6 only allows for emergency calls to 4 pre-determined numbers and emergency numbers from the lock screen.

Quickly manage your MyID Profiles. Also, turn your iPhone into a life-saving tool in an emergency. The MyID app embeds your emergency information into a custom QR code image for your phone's lock screen wallpaper.
+ The QR code can be scanned by first responders to view your online profile.

+ Store info about emergency contacts, vitals, allergies, medications, blood type, organ donor and more. The custom QR code can be overlaid over any photo of your choice and set as the wallpaper on your iPhone's lock screen.

+ The app also syncs with your MyID bracelet, sticker, or other MyID products to provide emergency info when you don't have your phone with you.

+ Enable passcode lock

+ Tap and hold to reorder lists to display exactly how you would like.

LOL to how they refer to iPhone in the description.

Is there perhaps a better app out there that I can try? I don't particularly like the QR code on the lock screen.

Would this even be worth anything in SA, would our first responders even know about it? As good an idea as it sound,s it would be completely useless if the people most intended to use it know nothing about it.

True, them maybe a QR code on the lock screen will be more visible. The other thing is, will your phone will still be on you after being in an incident. Skelms might be there before the first responders. :(

That, or the phone itself got damaged, I know 1 paramedic, and his whole family wears bracelets, nothing on the phone.

its not the medic-alert ones, there is another one, you put on emergency contacts, medical, allergies, vitals and such. More detailed than a medic-alert and the local paramedics know to look for it.
