Android Useful Apps

Many sites, thing mybb have no respect for their users and just flood the entire site with adverts that are actually render blocking making for an awful user experience, your bigger providers like Google have non-blocking ad loaders.

Yeah, it's become a joke. Half or more screen space for ads. TSEK. I block ads wherever I can.

I don't mind like in content ads, for the most part, gifs and auto playing videos are the worst.

What I did find disturbing and hopefully it was pure coincidence, but one 1 site a takealot ad which was basically my recently viewed items list...

That is not coincidence at all. It's how Google does ads... it tries to serve you ads that you will find useful... no use serving you up an ad about a special on kettles at bestbuy in buckfukk, texas.

Yes, but an animated 3x3 gif that highlights the various products in sequence. That's a new level of stalking, like the first 2 items in the gif where the fenix watch straps I had looked at not an hour prior.

OK, so it won't be a security or privacy risk? (sorry, not too clued up with how it works)

If anything it is a security enhancer as it blocks ads, malware and analytics tracking.

The XDA team recommended it, that is how I found it, been using it for close on 6 months now. All it does is setup a local VPN on your phone that filters URLs, so checks the URL and either blocks it or allows it, in practical function it would be closer to a firewall than a VPN.

You can choose which lists it filters against, add your own lists or filters, so if you decided to block facebook, com, cheers to facebook.

Thanks! Gonna try it now.... I used brave, but would be nice to be able to block all ads without root required.

I quite like root, but with each OS update it becomes less and less necessary to have it to be able to do what I use it for, but adverts was basically one of the 2 last remaining reasons, however it is still impossible to root a nokia phone, so I am SOL on the Tasker related reason, but at least I do not have to worry about adverts. It's not perfect, but it is immensely better than not having it

It doesn't seem to block adverts in the YouTube app so far....

It wont, nothing will, those are not your standard adverts, they overlay videos served from youtube, in order to block them you need to block youtube.

I'm using blokada on my LIT box. It blocks YouTube ads too.
