Yeah, I read the devs' comments and it will be difficult to run root apps as you said. But Google has also started to implement some of the popular features that were introduced by devs in either Xposed or straightforward root apps. I don't think their idea is to stop rooting or prevent devs to write apps that does require root. I think their idea is that they want the OS to be as secure as possible. Thereby some access to different layers of the OS would be restricted. Chainfire makes a lot of good points I never thought of. The unfortunate thing about not allowing deep root access, is that some devs will exploit this for revenue with their malware/adware that I don't particularly care for. Apps like Adaway still works, but if this kind of thing seizes to exist, I would certainly hate the fact that before you open an app you first have to close some ad. If Google can control this kind of thing, then I am all for the direction they are going into. I am no dev either, but I want to try and control my device the way I want to since I am the outright owner. From the root apps I have tested, most work well. I will miss Xposed if Rovo89 can't find a workaround - I love GravityBox and CrappaLinks and to a lesser extent others, but I can live without it should Google bring in more functionality from especially GravityBox

I think its a good direction they are going in too, Android often gets lambasted over security, people forget iOS has just as many holes, they just have so much less market they AHoles making malware don't care.

Personally, my phone pretty much runs on root, too many apps I use need it, Call Master, Titanium Backup, Cerberus, DS Battery Saver, Greenify, Secure Settings, quite a few daily used XPosed modules, the only one I would really care about is XPrivacy. Google does not have easy replacements for these, the only thing really is the callblocker, but that requires me to reset it up each time I get a new phone, with titanium I simply restore my apps with data meaning callmaster just works with all my existing profiles and call/sms blocks

Google has been making the need for custom roms less prevalent, its the manufactures like samsung that actually create the need but filling the OS with bloat and taking decades to release updates.

Only the developer preview is out on the N5/7.

Lollipop is only being officially released with the Nexus 6 in November.

/maybe I should have included "developer preview"

You are right. So for those who installed it, I guess it is fair to comment on apps that runs as is on Lollipop and others that don't. Not?

Thanks for the tips - will look into them :p

Yeah ... TB - imo the best app on my device! It makes life so simple when you get a new device and need to set it op - it reduces the setup process quite a bit. But then in Lollipop, there is a new feature whereby you can get your data etc OTA with beam or BT. Dunno how it works yet, but I think I will factory reset my N5 and see how it works between the S5 on KK and the N5 on L. Would be great if it works well

Lollipop with TochWizz

I have been playing around with Lollipop since the Preview came out, and it is really an enlightening experience! The interface is great, smooth and the animations are lovely. The new functionalities built in is superb and it really seem so clean/pure. Although Samsung will bring in more features into the OS with TW, they are sure to mess it all up with crappy bloat and UI changes. If they would just keep the UI pure and add their bloat with the option to disable those bloat that you don't want, I will be a happy camper.

I played around with Here today, and the routing is not too bad. The live traffic knew about an accident just before the Monument Park traffic lights shortly after it happened. One thing that is not too good is the speed limits - they are not very accurate. The interface and the available options are a bit minimalist. Hopefully they will pad this out before it comes out of beta.

What is a good application to use to track your phone if it gets lost or stolen?

If your rooted, cerberus. Misplaced my phone twice int eh last week. Very useful as it works well within my power saving profiles. I can send an sms to turn the data on, and then login tot he web portal to toke over from there. Being rooted I have it pushed as a system app so its able to turn the GPS on, something you cannot do with a non-rooted device and non-system apps.
