Nothing to do with the app, its outside its scope of functionality. Its a "send to" application, it cannot interact with an item before its triggered and "send to" is not a standard option for folders.
May want to try the new esFile Explorer, its got this new lan send function, have not tried it, but who knows.

I'm looking for a lock-screen type app that will silently take a picture of the person trying to unlock the phone with the incorrect PIN. I've seen this on an iPhone, is anyone aware of such an app?
Some security software does this for you, as well as taking pics, recording video and audio at predetermined intervals when you send a lost/stolen signal to the phone.
There are so many security options these days though and my choice of software (Avast) doesn't have this functionality, so I'm not 100% sure who the best bet is here...

Lookout Security has that option. It automatically sends you an email with the picture and location of the person trying to access your phone.

Saw that, but there should be ways around this.
Perhaps build the functionality of a lite file explorer into it or build intelligence into the app so that when it receives a batch of files it gives you the option to move the batch of files into a new folder.

I have a folder called Music, in there there are multiple folders with ArtistNames as the folder names, in there, there could be another folder with AlbumNames, obviously I would like to transfer files to the other device while maintaining the folder structure and names.

Get what youre saying and it would be useful, but it would also be a completely different app. THis app is in no way intended for that purpose, the context menu for folders does not include "share" its a limitation of the operating system, a quite logical limitation, with the exception of a very small handful of app, that menu option would be completely useless.
Cerberus. There is no real competition. I chose the rooted installation that cannot be removed by any means without my password, not even factory reset or changing of firmware. It does much much more than take photos upon incorrect password entry. You get a 7 day trial I think, then it's a once off three Euros.

You havent's seen what Avast's Anti theft really is?
Maybe I shall point you to the Anti theft's origen before it was bought. And incorporated into the suite.
Oh and I just did a Factory rest + flash on my tablet and the "cow race" app is back up and running.
I'm not saying there aren't apps with similar functionality, I'm just saying I think Cerberus is the king. I've tried all the popular anti-theft apps and I knew I'd found the right one when I got to Cerberus, which took me a while to try out. Nice online interface, massive list of functions it can carry out remotely, it's cheap, uses almost no system resources and most importantly, works 100% of the time. I can't be worrying about occasional issues if my phone gets stolen.
If you've had success with Avast then I'm delighted for you. More competition is always better for consumers. Avast was actually one of the first apps I tried, as it's so popular. It seems perfect at first glance, but the online interface isn't great, it's resource intensive and it often had issues connecting to my device. I can't recall if it could pull call and sms logs, make any message appear on the phone and email a pic when it is dismissed, take video and pictures on command with either camera etc. What's important to me is that Cerberus never fails.

AFAIK it's not legal here
Its not legal anywhere, but from what I recall is overseas they actually have physical scanners that they rebroadcast over the air, as obviously you cannot directly link a police radio frequency to a phone. This is SA, we too poor to do such things for free.

You will need a digital radio that has a broader range than the ones regulary available.These radios are available in South Africa if you know where to look. I know one shop in Cape Town had some many years ago. (sorry can't remember the name) They are not cheap, (R1500 to R2500 back then) but you will be able to hear the local Police station and may other broadcasts on it. Typically these radios also have SSB, LW and such. Look for something like that, I'm sure you'll find one if you search hard enough.

ES was always awesome, you just went over to the darkside.
Solid is still awesome with its split panel view makes like much easier when you have to copy files to and from Internal - External storage, Device - Network shares.
Copy speed from network shares was faster on Solid last time I tested and I still like the filter and search functions better on Solid (haven't tested the latest ES tho).
/sigh I guess I am stuck on two file explorers again.

I downloaded Solid and I must admit that after just using File Manager for years this is a nice and refreshing change. I love the features and the interface/menu's are very intuitive.
