Android Useful Apps

Anybody have a suggestion for a good SSH client? I'd like to be able to connect to our work server and access files on it remotely.

To all those complaining that I didn't give links, meh. Besides I was on my phone when I posted that list. If you want to find each app it's fairly simple.

here's how:
highlight app name
copy
go to google
paste in search box
enter
???
profit

Dont mean to derail but what is the point of you posting then??

Edit: Guys, I will be incorporating your post into the OPs. If you don't mind try to keep the format similar i.e. App Name with link embedded and a short description.

Agreed, posting from your phone is no excuse for not doing it properly. Its quite simple, if you can't do it rite, don't bother doing it at all.

Don't go doing half a job and then come back with some cocky "your lazy" response, the points not for us to find it easily, its for the OP to include in the main, easy to find without scouring pages, list without him having to hunt down a dozen app links on the market.

The idea is to build a large, complete list on the first page, and its a pretty good idea that only works if people come in with a proper attitue and offer valuable help, unlike you. If everyone had your attitude the idea would not of gone past the first few posts as it would of simply been far too much effort for OP to actually maintain.

Google Navigation is the winner for me. The GPS will only be on when you turn it on. It does need data access, although you can pre-cache an area in Google Maps so it wont have to download a whole lot while navigating.

Let me add an app here:

Drivers Journal. A handy app where you can log vehicle trips, petrol/diesel fillups, services, tolls and parking. You can also add notes.

I use it almost everyday for work when I have to drive to clients. Much better than writing in a pad. It also exports to a csv file which is nice.

How do you "you can pre-cache".

Push Ads driving you crazy?

Advertising detectors.

Lookout Ad Network Detector - Scan and report on applications that install add based aps or use Push notification for ads (Same people that gave you Lookout)
*AppBrain Ad Detector : Detecs adds and report on SDK's the developers used From Facebook to Google Analytics (By the creator of the Appbrain)
Airpush Detector : Simple push notification detection, for when you don't want to use a 12 ton truck to move a pebble. It does as the name says, just reports if you have Air push apps installed.

Advertising Blockers:

AdFree Android Comunity based ad block using host files from XDA (Needs root)
Droidwall : Android firewall with manual entries needed to block the guilty sources but can be used to block other things as well. (Needs root)
* MIUI custom ROM that has Firewall and network use detectors built into the OS. As pictured here

I dont know of any known method that doesnt need root to block Ads.

Might also be worth to mention here that the Adblock Plus extension also works in Android's Firefox browser.

Guys and girls is there an app that will clean my contacts on my android? I find now I have multiple contacts for the same person and also unwanted contacts like email addresses. There is one called SMART CONTACT CLEANER for BB but I cannot find one like that on Android.

In MIUI there is a Merge function, but I dont trust it either. I find the best is to log into Gmail on your desktop PC and click on Gmail top left to show the contacts tab. Start cleaning it and editing your contacts with pics, data and grouping. Its something you only do once and will reap you years of benefits later on. Oh and as a bonus, generate an export to CVS that you can keep for later on, like importing into Windows Phone if you jump ship.

Your Android Phone when then simply sync this data if your Gmail Contact sync is ticked in the settings -> accounts section.

Thanks man i will give it a try. I messed about with the contact settings and when I asked to only show contacts with cell numbers I had like 5 people and that is wrong. I must actual also look at multiple deletion on the phone instead of 1 at a time.

Gmail Contacts edit will allow you to delete as well as ad with multiple selections as well, just start fixing it up in there. (Just make a back-up before you start)
