Android Useful Apps

I love the suggestions/predictions!

With the biggish keyboards you've shown, there is an option to reduce them. With SK3 this makes it even nicer to use!

The predictions of SwiftKey is spot on 99.9% of the time for me, why would you not want to use it lol. And i type kombuis Afrikaans and English gemeng :-P. It has learned how I type over the past few months of using it. I cannot, and will not, go back to anything else.

I dont need predictions, plus the predictions bar wastes valuable screen space.

You can disable the bar. Anyway, 4.1 has predictions built into the default keyboard...

Have not seen thr option to disable it else I would of, and I looked.
4.1? Swiftkey is on v 3 and android is on 4.0.3/4 so not sure what you refering too, but it is possible to disable predictions globally on ICS.

Also for me the biggest draw for perfect keyboard is the split landscape layout, something similar to that thumb keyboard. I may have big hands but on a Galaxy Note its just really frustrating stretching accross to type those middle letters.

Admitedly have not been looking, but in the time I spent looking for my fav keyboard I nevet found another one with a similar layout option. I know swift does not have it, already looked.

My mistake - I was thinking of the default Samsung keyboard layout. You can change the size of the keys though.

I can see how the split keyboard would work for you - especially on a 5" landscape screen. Once again, the openness that is Android means everyone wins!

The 4.1 he is referring to is Jelly Bean. The version after ICS.

You mean like this:

Notice the key to the left of the space bar:

(Screen captures with ICS's default screen capture - I'm really chuffed with that!)

I have installed Onavo extend a few days ago but it's still not showing me my savings. Will it take a few weeks to see the savings?

Should be immediate.

It only compress normal data, html and so on not streaming, and only on 3G

Thanks for that Elimentals. I do have only gprs at home which could be the reason.

On a side note do you use GO launcher EX?

Nope.
Only Launchers I do used is SPB Shell 3D, ADW Launcher EX and Apex.

SPB is pretty dam nice, but since it was to memory heavy on ICS on my nexus s i was forced to use stock and find alternates for all the spb features I loved, since then I stared using apex, mostly for the vast improvements in speed, performancr and smoothness over stock, but also the backup feature came in quite handy when I upgraded.

All in all feel little desire to return to spb, essentially it was just pretty. Also ics launchers are way better than gb, so back then it could be considered and essential launcher.

I use to love SPB shell 3D(Old vid of my phone) as it really showed off the phone capabilities. Now I prefer the minimal look, hence ADW Launcher EX(JPG). But then I even go minimal with Stock MIUI(JPG)

MIUI Launcher is also available as a standalone launcher if you dont want to use the ROM like I do from the market(Play link) and allow people to access the millions of themes without root, but I guess the iOS like lack of a app draw is not for everyone.

For those wanting to have a look at RAW files from their cameras, I was pretty chuffed with the way RawDroid Beta worked compared with Android Photo Review Lite.

Well Not raw so much but when it comes to my Canon 450D nothing beats https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=eu.chainfire.dslrcontroller

Stick in the camera's USB cable and off you go, its so good its even a reason to pick Android over iOS. (Seeing that you have no equiv on iOS unless you buy expensive middle gear)

Go sms's pro

I'm using the PRIVATE BOX function in the app "go sms pro" on my SG2 and so is my GF, as it turns out her daughter likes to read our juicy late night sms's
Now my GF has forgotten her password! is there a way to delete old password other than having to uninstall go sms's pro?
Thanks

I'm sure it's been mentioned but I think possibly THE most important, must have app is AndroidLost.

Even for when you just misplace your phone at home somewhere.

I installed it but never used it until now, gf went to work in my car and I thought I left my phone in the car.
So I went to androidlost.com, signed in with my Google account and made an alarm go off, my phone was in the kitchen :)

You can also access a plethora of other phone functionality like camera, microphone, send messages to the phone (hey, mofo, I know where you live, police are coming!) , wipe phone etc.

Update for the File Management / Explorer Section

Already listed are:

ASTRO File Manager Add supported with option to remove
ES File explorer
File Expert With cloud integration (all in one)
File Station
Root Browser

Found 2 that might also be worth a look

File Manager By Rhythm Software the creators of the File Manager HD (The best Tablet based file manager if you ask me purely because of permission management) also the best lan share management

Well that was true till I found this puppy, It actually includes all the features from all of the above.

Solid Explorer Beta2 : Yes it still beta but man does it have features and then some. From SMB shares, to sftp/ftp but it has an added secret, ability to add Cloud storage, from Box.com to your Google Drive and Dropbox all under one app. Go check it out it truly is the best of the lot if you ask me.

Oh and just when you thought it can not get any better, try turning your phone for landscape dual pane view with drag and drop file manipulation :)

Great file manager, the features this thing has is 2nd to none, might just replace Root Explorer for me. Will see in a few real world usage situations if its gonna be my primary.

Thanks for the heads up
