Android Useful Apps

Well in that case its even better. You know when Linux prompts you before an app is allowed to install in /usr/bin or so on, well this is exactly like that.
You and I are certainly using different versions of linux. No package I've installed has asked me that.

Anyway, that's not the point of this post. I've just rooted my U20i from linux, and I've probably learnt more about what rooting entails than most of the aficionados here know. From what I've seen, most rooting 'apps' make use of malware exploits to install themselves. For instance, SuperOneClick uses psneuter or zergrush to give you su capabilities. Maybe Kaspersky have a point?

I was thinking of rooting my n7000, to find out what papyrus stores in /data, but I'm not so sure anymore.

Speak to me please guys...

I don't like using those super one click things, much prefer to just flash the su binary myself. Get them off xda so being a trustworthy source, also you I am pretty sure you can get them off sammobile. com.

That's where I get my roms at least, could also just send you the binary I use, sammobile has the leaked jellybean for the n7000 if you want a premature upgrade, been using it for some time now and quite happy with it, it's su binary should work for ICS too, almost it is an ICS binary.

As for the root thing, Ubuntu does that to me, need my password for almost anything, as it's a file server and said nothing is very seldom I care less about finding away of stopping it.

Hi everyone.

I am looking for a similar app to Apple iPad's NoteTakerHD, to use with my Note 2. You know, where you have a area to write with the stylus at the bottom of the screen that automatically or easily scrolls on whilst you write, but the actual writing is small at the top of the document...don't know if that's a good explanation... :p

The note2 does have a build in function like that. Just work through the tutorial on S note.

The multiscreen, can't wait for that to come to the note original. saw on xda there is a way to extend it beyond the retarded 6 or so apps Sammy has allowed.

Yip, there's lots of mods for the multi window already. To be honest, it's a cool feature and I've been using it for a month or so, but so far I can't see much real world usage for it.

Could not imagine thier would be, on the tablet I can see it being great if you could get the Adobe suite running in it, useful at clients, but can't imagine anything else especially on the 5"

I know I mentioned LEDs Hack, in my post(#411) about things to root the phone, but I just wanted to update that I found even a better one. (Some phones still need root)

This one is even on the market, check out Light Flow Lite - LED Control.

Great app to add colors and actions to your phone's LED so that you can know what happened without even unlocking it.

Light Flow does not work on my S3

Just installed GO Launcher. Quite liking it!

Slightly off-topic, can anyone recommend a free Android app designing course? Just wanted to try it out

OMW...I think I found the app that is going to take my experience to a whole new level.

It's called Swipepad. You can swipe in from any edge of the screen to launch either recent apps (much quicker than holding in the home button), recent contacts, frequently dialed, or your own screen of apps. You can do this from any screen.

And 'clipper' is also very very useful:

Hope those links came out all right

I love Swipepad, have it on my phone for well over a year. Just one hint for new users, make it swipe in from the bottom, esp when playing temple run :)

I'm finding the stock browser more than good enough on the Note2 - what does Dolphin offer over and above?

Proper html5 supports, security extensions, exit button, options, its not ****. There is also the superior rendering engine so pages load faster and it actually supports HTML5 games too. Something the stock browsers rendering engine cannot handle. You need Dolphin, Chrome or FF to be able to properly use HTML5 at an acceptable performance level, currently dolphin provides the most powerful HTML5 rendering engine, it even out-scores some desktop browsers.

when Google officially makes chrome the stock browser then a genuine comparison can be made, but the current stock is not much better than IE.

True but I for me google chrome browser is better. Also with chrome you can sync to your desktop ect. and there is no limit on the amount of tabs you want to open

Will reconsider chrome when it allows extensions, do not pay last pass $20 a year so that I can access my bookmarks and saved usernames/passwords on my phone to then not be able to access it on my phone. Have not run into a circumstance where I wanted to move from my desktop to my phone or visa versa.

Via Lifehacker website: Hive Settings. I have not installed it yet, but it looks interesting. It almost looks like all the settings displayed as icons/controls.

Android: Most Android phones already have a widget or toolbar in the notifications drop-down that lets you toggle common settings like Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, location services, and airplane mode. If your phone doesn't have that, or if you want access to more options, Hive Settings is a free app that puts them all on one screen so you can quickly toggle them when you need them.

Hive Settings is a labor of love by XDA forum member _lucian, who's released the app for free. In addition to common settings like the ones we've mentioned, Hive Settings also gives you one-touch access to your screen brightness, screen rotation controls, and 3G/4G data settings. It also includes an app manager, so you can quickly uninstall, back up, or make APKs of any of your currently installed apps.

The app is free and available at Google Play. If you'd like to see features added, head over to the XDA forum link below to chat with the developer.
