We do not use Android or WhatsUp but see users regularly complain of display adds when using WhatsUp!
Just wondering if these adds originate from the Facebook Messenger that is installed on these device or from another source like WhatsUp?

No
Neither are invasive ad-supported
Something else might be overlaying however

Do you mean WhatsApp?

As much as I despise WhatsApp (have to use it for one single user, my boss) I suspect that the installed one of those "other" versions of WhatsApp rather than the official version. Else it is another app that is causing popups whenever another app is opened.

But I agree with @sajunky ....... Telegram

I have successfully resisted the use of these IM services and continue doing so, but the people around here use it and complain about adds etc.
I still prefer the old SMS and happy with it.

Oh BTW please people it is ADS not ADDS. AD is the abbreviation of advertisements. ADD is a verb describing the action of joining or putting in.

Never ever seen an ad in whatsapp
Ads where already long time. If you type a message with URL, Whatsapp check it and inserts advertising content for this Website on the top of message. If you don't scroll to the top and remove the ad, it will be sent to the receipient.

Rest of us like being able to send more than that measly character limit, have chats via it, send images/other media, etc. without having to pay for it if on WiFi or a substantially reduced rate if on mobile.
Do move on with the times and use e.g. Telegram.
