What were your experiences the moments when first received and upon waking up?

I've never had it and i'm going in for an op on Friday for my heart.

What kind of high, if any, is it like?

Fell asleep very quickly and woke up feeling refreshed. Best sleep I had in years. :)

None for me. Like waking up from a very deep sleep. Can slowly start to hear sounds, then your brain kicks into gear and you wake up.

Is it like an on/off situation? Like there was no time from going under to waking up?

Pretty much. They often make you count down but within a couple of numbers you're completely out and then all of a sudden you're awake again.

My anaesthetist was having a conversation with me and half way through one of my replies he said "good night" and I was gone. Half woke up when they were wheeling me somewhere and then woke up properly back in my room with an incredible ache in my knee (was a knee operation) and felt pretty drowsy the rest of the evening. Had super trippy dreams that night.

That would be the morphine based pain meds, not the anesthesia.

I have had a triple bypass and as mentioned while speaking to the anesthetist i was gone and woke up with tubes breathing for me , that was when the panick of trying to breath with the tubes in your throat took over until they took the tubes out .
That whole experience was surreal as though it is happening to some one else but you know it is happening to you .
I was very lucky i had no pain the whole time and was released from hospital after 5 days .
The nurses at st Augustines heart ICU were like angels , i have never in my life been treated so well .

Out like a light and then start having weird dreams just before waking up. Anesthesia screws me up solidly though I have a serious hangover for 2 weeks afterwards.

Depends - the hospitals give very different meds in my experience.

e.g. One gave me a very powerful pre-op medication. Don't even recall being wheeled into the operating room - I'd say a good hour or so pre-op missing. Others I remember till like 10 seconds into breathing whatever gas it was they made me breath.

No high.

You wake up groggy with a super dry throat. I'd also put some lip-ice on before going.

Went under when got wisdom's out. Pretty much off/on, weird waking up tho cause you are still semi paralyzed, took a minute till I could actually talk and a few to move fully.

Pethodine 100mg maybe?

I love those :o

I just wake up.

A little groggy at first - but that's not uncommon for me when waking up.

Only time I went under was to have my impacted wisdom teeth removed. It took me a while after waking up to realise where I was. I also had tears streaming down my face. I had to ask a nurse to bring tissues so I could dry my face and blow my nose. Not sure why, but it was a very odd experience for me.
