Anger and sadness over e-toll launch date

Now a true constitution would allow a citizen referendum and not decisions being shoved down citizens throats - there are many international cases where a referendum turned around a ruling party's decision. Not sure why the South African constitution does not allow the most basic right of a referendum. - Would have killed that whole drama in years ago already.

Clearly the opposition parties did too little too late and have concluded with excuses of not being in power or not being involved (the later we know is not the case as the DA for example was very well involved in the original process but then walked away - similar to what they did during the Nkandla investigation).

Don't blame the opposition dude, they tried .. even in the courts, blame the fat ANC ********s who planned this rape of the public in the first place.

I hate people who play the blaming game, it will get you f@#$king nowhere. Rather put all your energy in fighting the m@therfakers cANCer. you people are quick to point the finger.

An opposition party can do only so much if a party controls 65% of parliament. Any hair-brain scheme will be voted through and then it must be fought in the ConCourt by the opposition to be possibly quashed (at great expense by the taxpayer and the party). Good thing the ConCourt chief is not a Zuma puppet....oh wait....

I tried as much as I could and donated my share of my etoll fees on a monthly basis to Outa for almost two years and think this is the most I could do during that time (as a non-resident tax-payer voting is obviously out). I doubt many of you pointing fingers have done as much. And yes, I do blame the opposition parties for their lack of non-involvement. Even if it is a minority the DA for example was very well aware of SANRAL's plan and chose not to make it an important issue for the greater public.

I personally hold all opposition parties sitting in parliament and plenary sessions for placing us into this situation. The NRA and Sanral were busy with tender processes dating as far back as 2009 and when a multi-billion tender is awarded to a foreign company, I would have expected that parliament and politicians follow due-diligence process, which has not happened.

So, before anyone shouts at, no-one knew, or nothing could have been done, I disagree. Had the DA for example raised the flag back in 2009 or 2010 this would have never happened. One can argue, that the beneficiaries of this project purposefully chose not to disclose the consequences of this initiative, but I would have thought that as part of such a massive infrastructure project, various industry bodies should have been consulted and be involved and yet it was only up to the consumer and groups such as OUTA to try and stop the project in the 11th hour. What the DA is trying to do now is too little too late and is no more than electioneering to canvas votes.

Really ?

With all the people in this country who just vote for mediocrity and corruption regardless ?

Poor Western Cape is going to be shocked when they see next years' election results with an ANC majority vote in the province. :p
Sorry but I couldn't resist, it was just too tempting.

Don't temp fate, the Western Cape is rapidly coming right, but that could be reversed very quickly.

I think the next decade will key for the DA interms of retaining their position there and winning in Gauteng. If they win Gauteng I suspect other provinces and national will change
