If it was clearly labelled I would have no issues. I'm guessing that's why they stick them on products. So you can see what's actually in them.

if i want to stuff my face with chicken sausage, it best be fresh chicken and not old turkey.
as for the packaging, it can be deceptive - i have been caught out once or twice.

I buy boerewors knowing there is port in it. I also buy it knowing there are other spices and cereals in there too ..... I read the label.

South African regulation say in order to use the word "boerewors" It has to be 90% meat, always have beef in it with a mixture or either pork or mutton or both, 10% spices and other ingredients, with no more than 30% of the total meat being fat.May also not contain mechanically deboned meat, adding cereals to boerewors is a big no, if it does it MAY not be called boerewors, period, butchers can be fined if they do.

If they don't comply they may not label it as boerewors, if they do you can report them. Russians sausage don't have protection boerewors has, so it can vary from proper smoked russians to stuff that looks like my dog crapped out.I wish they would regulate that as well, the crap on shelf's lately.

I remember Rosmead Spar used to make these amazing chive/chicken/herb boerewors. Then they changed their casing from that natural casing to that awful synthetic casing because of religious complaints. It completely ruined the wors.
