Annex M vs Annex A

Am I correct in stating that Annex M is "backward compatible" with Annex A?

To rephrase: my ISP supplied modem died, it was set to Annex A, the new modem (not ISP supplied) does not list Annex A, but only Annex M. Can this cause connection issues?

as far as i know no it has something to do with the mode in which you connect to the net G.DMT and so on
Annex a and m should work fine

I got my problem sorted which means that Annex A also works under Annex M
