Hi Guys

I got this annoying email and an sms also from afrihost.

I signed up for a R29 1 gig account.
I used most of my bandwidth so I topped up with an extra gig.

When my account got to 90% usage I got this email stating my bandwidth is almost over and I will get capped.

However, I did anticipate this and as such I topped up!!!

I find this email most annoying so I wrote them an email to say this email is incorrect and a bit annoying.

I must in fairness say that their response was swift, accurate and to the point.

They acknowledge the problems in the notification emails and are already working on fixing it!

Dear [Name Removed]

We trust that you are well!

Please note that your account ([email protected]) has
used 96% of the bandwidth that is included
with your 1 GB package.

The 1 GB package includes 1024.00 MB of
traffic and you have used 986.76 MB so far.

We calculated that you have a total of 2.000 GB bandwidth
(including all of your additional TopUp Bundles purchased) available for
this period and have used a total of 986.765 MB so far.

What does this mean for you?

Once you have reached 100% of your bandwidth your account will be
capped and you will no longer be able to connect to the internet until
the 1st of next month.

What is incorrect? Surely you can just tick a box to opt-in or out of reminders. I know Webafrica does this.

It seems right to me. They say that you've used 96% of your standard package, and have a total of 2GB available including top-ups (of which you've used 986.765 MB). When you reach 2GB (100% of your total allowance), you'll be capped.

Although I do see how the wording can be confusing.

I also got these emails in November when I topped up, wasn't worried as long as the total bandwidth available was correct. I think it only starts tracking the new bundle once the previous one is used up, so it seemed to me, but the total was always correct.

I see the problem, and as smooth criminal stated it only kicks in once the new bandwidth starts to get used.

By the way, we looking at changing the words so it says: "You have used 900 MB of 1 GB" rather "You have used up 98% of the bandwidth"

Hope this helps.

are you sayign that the email doesn't take the top-up into account?
