Long term your diploma is the way to go. To answer your question about learning C# on the companies dime definitely go with the Microsoft Certs.
 
I also suggest finishing your N.Dip. Theory may seem boring but it does help instead of being a code monkey.

Thanks Guys, will go this route and will check out the MS stuff for the short term!

2. Do MS certifications for C#, or, if it's more the knowledge you're after and not so much the piece of paper saying you have the skills, then you can look at stuff like this.

EDIT:
I think it starts at $25 monthly for the cheapest monthly plan, and $360 annually for the top of the range subscription package. Well worth the info you get. And you'll get access to LOTS of other training material (videos + project code) in both technical and non-technical fields.
