Another camera derailment

They are cheap but when you add shipping and duties on this side the difference becomes marginal. Shipping from B&H is $50 for UPS, so $570 or £285 for the camera. They don't include the duty but from what I've found online it's £50-70 for a camera in that price range. Which brings it, conservative estimate, to £335.

At my local Photo Optix, they sell the 400D body for £350 and thhe 40D sells for £700. That's a small difference...

Hopefully the company will send me to the US later this year - that'll make it worth my while.

Twice the price is a small difference? Or do you mean as compared to the US prices with all the duties etc?

Maybe its just my recollection but it looks like B&H have upped their shipping costs.

I just went on their site, put the camera in my cart, and hit "calculate shipping" - it was $50 on the 400D, and 57.60 on the 40D.

Don't get me wrong, I like the idea of buying from B&H - went there when I was in New York and it's a really cool place. If I go to the US this year I'll most certainly go to B&H.

But at a £15 odd difference I can just as well support my local camera shop - I might just need something in a hurry one day and it would be good if they're still in business... Plus then they *have* to answer all my stupid questions
