Looks good, you could try got the VTX one from wootware, its at R2700, also out of stock though. And with shipping you may end up not saving that much anyway. Pity that those MSI boards are out of stock too, at R1500/R2000 they would save you a good deal of moola.

I would recommend a bigger PSU for this system.
 
Im actually using suppliers like Axis, Rectron etc to do the buying so prices with certain components are cheaper..

If you close to midrand I'd recommend you drive through to http://vtechnologies.co.za/ and pick up the V12XT-600 psu for your GD (R780 last time i checked). Great value for money PSU and performs very well! is also 80+ certified and modular etc..

Agreed your GD should get the i7 930 while your boss the i7 860.

I'm not particularity familiar with which technologies CS5 can fully make use of in graphics cards, and some one please correct me if I'm wrong, but wouldn't an ATI fire GL or Nvidia Quadro card better server the GD??

Good point on the graphics card for the GD naked.. I wouldnt know the difference.
 
Workstation class graphics card are too expensive (example). That card clocks lower than a 5770 but costs R4500. Yes it is optimised for certain apps, but the apps you will be using will make good enough use of a normal card. Its usually only in 3D modelling programs that workstations card shine through. And even there (talking from experience) most apps dont make full use of the GPU. Its very frustrating.

He can swap the mobo for a MSI p55-GD65 and the it will be R8839.56. here's a cheaper option

PSU: Cougar 750w (only and cheapest good PSU they have in stock)
Mobo: MSI p55M-GD45
GPU: MSI radeon 5450
CPU: i7-860
HDD: Seagate 500GB 7200RPM
RAM: 2x2GB Apacer GiantII 1600Mhz

TOTAL = R7816.95

with that you can maybe fit in a Zalman 10x extreme CPU cooler + cooler master scout case.

all price are vat incl at 14%

I havent used Cougar psu's before or Apacer ram.. but i do shop with Pinnacle and will check them out especially on the MSI boards. The scout case from Axis looks like it will house everything nicely and still fit somewhat into an office environment.

be sure to check for the cooler master scout black case as it comes with all the fans included. i used apacer ram for 5+ years now and very happy with it.


I have the cooler master scout case and even on lowest settings my occed pc: Q9450 @ 3.2GHz(Zalman CNPS9700), MSI p45-platinum, Geforce GTX280 (also heavy overclocked), 4GB Apacer 1066Mhz ram 5HDD, corsair 650w and my CPU is idling at 38C and full load 50C and that's on all lowest settings even the CPU cooler. It's super silent aswell that sometimes I wonder if my pc is even on.

Thats my vote.. I dont have one but that's the one i almost bought :D

But from what i understand your boss would be angry if he found out that he could have got a 128GB.. So who knows..

EDIT: i just like things called Value series.. You know they skimped on something!

Hey guys the build is going well but suppliers are short on stock.. to get the GD's machine up and running they only have stock of the i5 750 processor and not the i7 860 i wanted to go with. For the graphic packages he is using, will the difference in processor have a huge impact?

Or should i just wait for stock to arrive for the i7 860?
 
On a different note, are there any Sata 3 and USB 3 boards available for the Intel range?
