Another help me buy a newer car thread

You don't and imho shouldn't even consider any Chinesium at that budget. You can get decent cars for that money, even a second hand Merc. .......so many so much better cars available.

I am driving a Honda amaze CVT and its an amazing little car for city driving. Even handles holiday driving fine. 1.2 liter so not awesomely powered but plenty for most uses. Honda CVT is amazing, happy to drive a Honda CVT for the rest of my life TBH.

How about a Suzuki Grand Vitara? Wife got one recently. It took some getting used to the 1.5 with the 4 speed auto gearbox but its a really comfortable drive in JHB traffic.

You don't mention size car but from the examples put forward you do lean towards a bigger size than the outgoing Jazz.

Left field recommendation would be a 2022/23 Mini Cooper. A few examples around R350k with less than 30k km & remainder of 5 year warranty.

What type of car does your wife prefer as a replacement to her Honda Jazz?

1. Compact Hatchback
2. Compact Sedan
3. Compact Crossover
4. 5-seater Compact SUV
5. 7-seater Compact SUV
6. Mid-size 5- or 7-seat SUV
7. Large 5- or 7-seat SUV

What preferred fuel type - petrol / diesel or petrol hybrid / diesel hybrid?

What preferred transmission - manual, AMT, CVT, DSG or conventional Automatic?

Then you can create a shortlist of your preferred cars by narrowing down the actual requirements based on the above choices.

Wrong field...

Wife has a tiggo 4 pro, which is the only one that fits OP budget.. she has the manual and would recommend that to anyone who is looking for something similar..

However, the auto I cannot.. was driven home in an auto after dropping my vehicle for a service one morning and it's sluggish as hell.. has no get up and go and seemed like a terrible driving experience.. maybe it had been beat to shyte, being a dealership village bicycle, but still..

i drove an auto tiggo pro and it did have power

maybe must go drive both to see the difference

something like the tiggo pro size is ideal, the creta also fits that size

in todays world what is that even called

the toyota cross is a little bigger than the tiggo and creta

also i have no idea bout new boxes like auto boxes ...i drive a manual and never did research on new boxes

from the little auto knowledge dsg and zf boxes are the best

oh and i dont think i want hybrid cos of the "unknown" or is that battery problems gone

the problem with VW is that you get alot less car , bmw mercs and all are jut crazy in the long run

i still dont trust renault and mazda

All those cheap gadgets and fake leather will last 20 years like your current car? I would like to see them even reach 10 years.
You get what you pay for.
One can only go by history.
You are almost guaranteed to easily find parts in 10 years time for a German/Japanese car. History.
The dumb and run brigade is another story and risk you taking.
So the question, how long you planning to drive this car?

I feel the same way but when i see that Cherry taking over the Nissan plant in Roslyn, does it not give it somewhat of a credible longevity?

Stay away from any car that has a CVT transmission, trust me bro.
Not all CVTs are the same though, e-CVTs like those used in Toyota hybrids, are probably just as reliable as a manual transmission. I'd still stay away from anything belt driven though.

The Chinese are catching up fast, but something like the VW T-Cross is still much nicer to drive than a Chery Tiggo Cross etc, it will have far fewer "features" though.

If you don't trust Renault then you also need to rule out the Nissan Magnite, all the cheaper Nissan and Renault models are based on the same platform.

This is largely the conundrum I'm faced with at the moment trying to find a replacement for my missus' Honda Civic.

And its problematic because its a weird combination of fuel efficient (mostly) and very nippy if you need it, which is a combination that is not easy to replicate with todays cars in the R300k price range.

wife has a 2006 honda jazz probably worth around 45k max

she wants to upgrade ...so we budgetting around 300-350k with about 100k probably financed

what options do i have

looking at omoda, cherry tiggo, toyota cross and jetour dashing

what about nissan magnite

and what would you choose and why

looking at brand new, demos or very low mileage <30k km cars

are you getting rid of the Jazz?
