Another jumper off Van Standens Bridge

Shame, but I wish they would just end their lives in solitude without having to get others involved in the mess.
 
JA it was some poor chap from Humansdorp. If you've ever been to humansdorp, you would understand why he jumped.
 
Luckely i don't care about people who want to end their lives, just dont make a mess of it please, do it right.....ffs wake up there is always some person who is worse off then you.

I've often wondered - are the phones there so that passers by can phone in reports of potential jumpers or do they hope the jumper is going to take the time to answer a ringing phone? :confused:

I remember when they put them in they said the point was that they were linked to Lifeline I think so the jumper could pick it up and be counselled etc. I'm not sure if the cameras are actually monitored 24/7 so that they could try and call the jumper?
 
Death leap off bridge

A HUMANSDORP man, Petrus Trompeter, 28, jumped off Van Stadens bridge yesterday – the 66th recorded death from the “bridge of death”.

Police found Trompeter‘s vehicle parked on the bridge yesterday afternoon.

“The vehicle was found at about 1pm, and upon further investigation, his lifeless body was found lying underneath the bridge,” said Inspector Marianette Olivier.

Cleaning up is no fun, that gorge is damm deep and difficult to get in and out of.

They need to put fencing up along the railings and top it with razor wire

Razor wire might not be that much of a deterrent if you plan on plunging to your death? :confused:
 
or, they could just leave it as is. If people want to kill them selves, they will do it no matter what. In fact, the way I look at it is, the more the better. Far to many people around for my liking. Plus, how often have you been heading home after a night on the piss, pull into the petrol station and all the pies are gone. I bet that with more people jumping off the bridge, there would be one less person to eat the pie I want to eat, thus increasing the chance of me getting to eat the pie.

So Kimosabe are you volunteering to come and join the clean up detail?

One of the main reasons that people use Van Stadens is due to the image that has been created over the years i.e. The Bridge of Death

People drive out there because they know that is easy (Jump off bridge) and there is no chance of not killing yourself.

Now if they arrive at the bridge and find that there is a 6 meter fence that curves in and is topped with coils of razor wire, they will just go back home.
 
Hey, i've been the those clean ups, I have the photos to prove it. I dont think i want to pick up the managled remains.

True, I don't know why they don't do that, seems like a much easier option than the cameras, phones etc.

Humansdorp is a small poor Coloured town. Or atleast 90% of the population there is coloured. It's a very poor town with a high drug and alcohol abuse rate ;)

Ok I drive through there quite often, didn't realise it was mainly coloured though.
