Another match, another low scoring draw.

I don't recall the first round of any of the last World Cups having this many draws. Can someone with a better memory/source of stats confirm that my memory serves me correctly and if so, why? Are teams just playing a lot more cautiously, are teams making the same shots on goal but the balls aren't going where they are supposed to? Am I full of it?

Aside from Germany and Auz, I guess the groups are pretty balanced then. :p

Combination of tight games, not wanting to lose your opener and the general strength of the teams at the world cup. Tight games are generally low scoring.

I think it has more to do with not losing your opener.

Yep...teams won't go all out...draw and one win with no losses...its not the Quaters and semi's yet...

Hmmm it would be more like win one draw 2 lose none :D.

The same problem comes in when the knock out games come around, the best part is the second/third round of group games because teams need points and know what they need to do in order to progress.

So glad I didn't watch the whole game. IV are a bunch of vuilgatte. No goals again? I know I should appreciate the other things in football too but I'm starving here.

Things have to be on the up.

Quite a few of the matches have been in favour of the underdogs and the big guns will have to pull finger.

Classic examples have been Uruguay and hopefully the Ivory Coast will pull through as well with a big result.

If there's any chance of the WC staying on this continent it's with the Ivory Coast I believe.

This must be some kind of record for the World Cup Tournament?

How many draws does that make now?

and the swiss
lets see how well the elephants do against Brazil

I think finally the underdogs are really starting to fight back and wont let teams push them over anymore... and the big teams are cautious.

Teams are going out with the intention of not losing rather than winning!

So now we are seeing alot of teams packing up the midfield or playing with 2 defensive midfielders and playing with the lone striker...
