Another North Korea fail!

North Korea said it would not react to "reckless" military drills by the South on Monday, despite an earlier threat to retaliate, and CNN reported that Pyongyang had agreed to the return of nuclear inspectors.

"The revolutionary armed forces of the DPRK did not feel any need to retaliate against every despicable military provocation," the official KCNA news agency said, quoting a communique from the North’s Korean People’s Army Supreme Command that dismissed the drills as a "childish play with fire."

North Korea said on Friday it would strike again at the South if a live-firing drill planned by Seoul on a disputed island went ahead, with an even stronger response than last month’s shelling that killed four people

It's still too early to comment on what North Korea will do, regardless of today's press releases.

If South Korea pushes the limits, then the North will most definitely respond.
 
North Korea needs to realize that it's no longer 1950.

South Korea is a sophisticated modern economy which supports a large miltitary complex with joint defense pacts with the US.

A war would interfer with business, but unlike NK, SK has a economy to support an prolonged action.
 
I guess this is proof that NK was just trying to get some attention with the attack. I'm sure they're well aware that a war would bring an end to the current NK government and "the great leader" does not want to sit in a prison cell :)
 
Please can we just get rid of that stupid mentally ill tyrant in the north there already? I hate schizophrenic dictators who think they are god and cause suffering for millions of people. Away with them.

It's like that a-hole in the Ivory Coast who does not want to vacate office after he lost the last election... now he is causing people to die because of his mental illness.

And this is exactly why NK may still attack SK. Forget about economics and world pressure, etc. - it will depend on the village idiot's mood...

There comes a time when you have to ask.... "how sane are the people that are willing to live under that nutjob?" Especially those in the military and civil service.

As well as the overwhelming force SK can bring to bear, I suspect that the Chinese (their allies), sick of NK brattish behaviour, told them that if they pursued this ‘retaliation’ course they were on their own and need not appeal to China for help.

I also think that the NK population may revolt if ‘Dear Leader’ gets too aggressive with SK.

That too. It was a flat-out lose scenario for China (they aren’t stupid). SK can call on massive assistance as well as being a formidable opponent themselves. China is engaging in a huge charm offensive and supporting a bankrupt, repressive regime like NK would lose them any moral high ground as well as being militarily dangerous. Lose.
