One of the guys on Gunsite says his brother-in-law stays down the road from there and heard two weapons being fired - this would account for the > 30 rounds being fired (1 magazine) - you're not going to do a magazine change when you gun someone down.
Except that there's speculation that it was done with a rifle in burst-fire mode, although I don't quite believe that rumour. Not many weapons (obtainable) in South Africa are capable of burst-fire.
