Former Springbok rugby player Tinus Linee has been diagnosed with the disease suffered by former Springbok Joost van der Westhuizen, it was reported on Tuesday.

"He is very positive and can still wear his clothes, drive and eat. At this stage only his speech has been affected and he walks slowly," Linee's wife Diana told Beeld.

She reportedly said he was diagnosed with Motor Neuron Disease in mid-April, but that he was in good shape. "He keeps us all positive."

Johannesburg-based specialist neurologist Dr Jody Pearl told the newspaper there were different theories about sport and the disease, but no one had yet been able to find a direct link between them.

Linee made his Springbok debut in 1993 and went to Romania as the assistant coach of the Timisoara Rugby Club in 2012.

According to the newspaper, his health started deteriorating on his return in February.

Would not surprise me if it was the "supplements" there guys where taking.

Guess some study needs to be done.

Tinus Linee. Now that is a name I haven't heard in a long time. Was the second non white Springbok after Chester if memory serves me correctly.

Rugby .Like boxing. Not good for you.

It has taken it's fair share victims. Most of which we never hear of.

Google Andre Venter. Did you know he woke up one morning and couldn't walk? He has been in a wheelchair ever since.

Good Luck Tinus. :(

Just look at those arms. I swear those arms are thicker and stronger than my legs.

:) He is a great businessman,an awesome person and it is not as bad as MND.
I just don't think rugby is worth all that.
66 caps.

Nah. Sorry. Rugby is just not all that.

My step mother has MND. She was diagnosed over ten years ago and is still alive. Although, the last couple of years was bad on her. She can't look after herself anymore.

First was Errol Tobias, then Avril Williams so maybe 4th.

Errol Tobias for the record was pre unification when sport and society was not yet open...just saying.

This MND is a big coincidence within the Springbok fraternity...remember a former team doctor passed away from it. Definitely worth further study

I recall Joost doing an interview where he claims that some fertilizer used in the 90's early 2000's are speculated to have been the cause for his disease.
The specialists believe he contracted it from him constantly licking his fingers during a match.

According to the interview Joost claims they have subsequintly changed the fertilizer used on the fields.
All speculation though.
