Another SA banking hoax

An email advising ATM users to type in their pin codes in reverse to alert police to criminal activity was a hoax, the South African Banking Risk Information Centre (Sabric) warned in Wednesday.

sheesh, ja... this hoax is as old as the hills. Saw this doing the rounds several years ago already.

Aahh... but...

This is an old email.

There is actually a patent registered for this feature, but it was apparently shown that under pressure you would be unable to correctly type it backwards (or so they say) that is why it is not in use.

You can easily do the reversal automatically by computer... so if the user is entering his or her pin under pressure and does it forwards, then the ATM automatically reverses it and summons the police... I think I should patent that one lol...

Local ATMs should just come standard with a "I'm being fscked" button.

When this is pressed, a high resolution panoramic photo is taken so the cops can identify the thugs.

If the thugs use the machine and make you tell them the password, just say "my password is 5643-I'm being fscked". :D

Would anyone really be so stupid to believe this story? Wait...South Africa...nevermind!

They should come with flame thrower built in - incorrect pin and you're toast lol

what if your pin 4444? besides you should talk to your bank if you have problems

Quite a few ATMs in the UK have cameras built in (not the CCTV ones; inside the actual machine) to deter ATM muggings etc. Do any ATMs here have this?

you should have two pins.
normal usage pin, and a pin that works but also sends out an alert.
