Afrinic IP allocation

Created by Matthew Tagg (Web Africa) on 03 Feb 2006
We are pleased to announce Web Africa is now a member of Afrinic (www.afrinic.org) and one step closer to a tier1 network provider, following recent allocation of our own IP address space.

The immediate benefits to clients are completely free dedicated IP's (for both end users and resellers), as well as providing redundant backbone bandwidth for both hosting and ADSL. We will be converting over to our own global IP space during the following few months.

Our initial allocation is 196.220.32.0 - 196.220.63.255 (/19)

well, it means a few things, the main probably being that WebAfrica can supply their own bandwidth at rates that aren't controlled by Telkom/SAIX.

they can also provide static IP addresses, which makes lots of things easier, such as hosting a website of your PC. no need for dynamic DNS update clients, etc.

peace! :)

lol @ PP.

Yeah they can provide local bandwidth at whatever cost they want although they still need to buy intl. bandwidth from Telscum.

Interesting times ahead though!
