Hi all

Busy putting together my cousin's rig. I installed an Antec Kuhler 620 for him, temps were around 30 at idle but when I ran Intel Burn Test temps shot up and stabilized at 80. Since it comes with no software, I can't tell whether its working or not, only indication might be that the fan is spinning. Motherboard is an ASUS P8Z68-V, any help is appreciated.

Check if the cooler block is connected correctly. Did you use thermal paste - and apply it correctly (my temps went from 90 degrees to 65 degrees just by adding thermal paste!!)

Cooler block was installed correctly, I used the thermal paste that came with the cooler, will buy extra this afternoon and put it on and see.

Those temps are rather high.

The Kuhler 620 is very very similar to my H60 (manufactured at the same place) and thus gives very similar results.
On stock, if I test using prime95, my temps don't go above 55-60C.

Since your idle temps are fine, I would say that at high load, the fan seems to be unable to keep up with the higher temps that pass through the radiator.

Did you set the radiator fan to blow air into or out of the case?

To blow out of the case.

To blow out of the case.

It's better to have it blow cold air onto the radiator, rather than hot air (obvious). Yes, this does go against the "cold air in at bottom, hot air out at top" analogy, but this is the best for the wc'ing setup.

I have an Antec Kuhler 620 and an i5-2500K overclocked to 4.7Ghz @ 1.392V. On idle (today) I get 26C - 33C, under prime95 large FFTs, i get 65C - 75C. Note the temperature varies between cores. iirc, on stock I would get around 50C with prime95.
I set mine to blow air out of the case, as instructed.
My results got a bit better a week or two after installing the cooler.
Based on my info, your system seems too hot if it's not OC'd, if OC'd, it's fine, so leave it. If stock, I would recommend removing the thermal pad, and applying some new paste. Use this guide: http://www.arcticsilver.com/intel_application_method.html#

Duff-Man: what CPU do you have and what voltage + frequencies are you running it at?

Lastly, what case do you have?

Pada : Not my rig, but a rig that I'm building for my cousin. He has an i7 2600K at stock clocks.

He has an AeroCool Sixth Element case.

Bought some Thermal paste about 2 hours ago, applied it and temps dropped from around 80 at load to the upper 60's/lower 70's. Would still like temps to be lower.

Duff-Man, when you apply the thermal paste, the layer should be VERY VERY thin, otherwise it won't be conducting the heat properly either.
If you re-apply thermal paste, you should first remove the old thermal paste.

70'C is way too hot for an i7 2600k at stock speed + voltage.

That is a good case. Just make sure that you stick to the airflow patterns that they show on its webpage: http://www.aerocool.com.tw/index.php/products/chassis/31-pgsr/116-sixthelementblue
So the cooler should blow out the air at the back of the case.

I did remove the old thermal paste. If temps stay at 70 degrees, I'll ask him to look into getting an Antec Kuhler 920, if not I'll look at lapping his CPU.

If the temps are 70C then a better cooler isn't your solution. You should rather find the problem.

Well he wanted temps to be under 60 degrees at full load, with an overclock of over 4Ghz, my goal is 4.5Ghz, I doubt the Antec Kuhler 620 will keep it below 60 degrees, with that in mind. What further worsens the problem is that the Antec Kuhler 620 doesn't come with any software to setup custom user profiles to meet the demand or any software to indicate that it's been installed correctly. I originally wanted for him to get an Antec Kuhler 920, but he insisted on getting a 620 since it was R400 cheaper and on sale.

I have the Antec 620. With Prime95 it does not exceed 60 degrees c

Try re-installing it.
