Hi
This story started while there were recption problems with Vodacom I noticed my external a/e socket was very loose but blamed the current signal situation for the problems after 3 weeks I took it to Vodacare in Durban who said there's nothing wrong After 3 days I went back and pointed out the loose socket " send it to JHB it'll take 2 days " so I agreed written as the fault was " Drops calls antenae socket loose " it came back 4 days later marked "no fault found " and the socket was still loose Being most pee'd off I brought the card back to my workshop ( TV ) split the case and re-attched /soldered the socket back to the card reassembled and tested What a surprise BACK TO NORNAL !!!!!
A good point here is the outgoing RF out RF in passes through the socket on it way to the internal antennae so in the fault condition not even the internal a/e was connected Hence the very poor signals
So much for Vodacom Tech's :D

Hmmm  maybe some pictures would help explain...:) [to be accompanied by a 'do not try this at home' disclaimer]

I have the same problem with a Novatel U740 card. In this case it uses a Hirose MS-151C connector which contains an internal switch. If the connector separates from the PC board the switch is disconnected from the circuit effectively disconnecting both aerials. See the circuit diagram on page 4 of the link. I would be very interested to see how you 'cracked' open your case as frankly I'm a bit too cautious to try that myself.

Yotch that looks a different connector to the one I have
To get the case open use a small craft knife and start at the fat end press blade into join in case and gently pry apart moving along slowly the 2 metal shields are also seperate and also split Take your time it took me about 5 mins but then I'm used to stripping remote controls
