Who on earth thought it would be a good idea to give permission for this march taking SA's xenophobic past into account and what are the chances that there won't be violence?

Pretoria – A group calling itself the Mamelodi Concerned Residents is expected to march to the Department of Home Affairs in Pretoria on Friday to protest against immigrants in South Africa.

Security services said “scores of people” are expected to take part in the march.

Law enforcement officers would be deployed along the route and at venues where memorandums would be handed over, the National Joint Operational and Intelligence Structure said in a statement on Thursday.

Spokesperson Brigadier Vishnu Naidoo said the City of Tshwane had approved the march.

Tshwane metro police spokesperson Senior Superintendent Isaac Mahamba said SAPS was handling security.

So that the SAPS and anc don't have to pull a Marikana as they will have to react on a illegal march. If the masses want to march they will legally or not.

Foreign-owned shops looted ahead of anti-migrant march

Johannesburg – Roads into and out of Atteridgeville, Pretoria have been blocked with some commuters stranded without transport ahead of a march by a group against immigrants in South Africa.

The march from Marabastad to the Department of Home Affairs was organised by a group calling themselves 'The Mamelodi Concerned Residents'.

It was preceded by looting of foreign-owned shops overnight in Atteridgeville, which saw seven people arrested so far, police said on Friday.

The organisers decried the employment of foreign nationals while locals struggled to secure jobs. Authorities in Pretoria had had initially refused to grant permission to the march organisers, citing safety concerns.

The National Joint Operational and Intelligence Structure (NATJOINTS) said security measures have been put in place to monitor the march.

"We would like to take this opportunity to urge all people participating in this protest action to do so in a peaceful manner. Those taking part should also note that the carrying of dangerous weapons is prohibited and those who decide to do so will likely face criminal prosecution," said Brigadier Vishnu Naidoo.

Atteridgeville streets cleared as anti-immigrant march heads to Pretoria Central

Johannesburg - Several streets that were blocked by protesters in Atteridgeville on Friday morning have been cleared, while a march against immigrants is set to proceed to Pretoria Central, Gauteng police said.

Atteridgeville residents were earlier blocked from going to work after protesters threw rocks and burned tyres.

Police spokesperson Lieutenant-Colonel Lungelo Dlamini said officials had cleared the road and traffic was flowing freely.

No injuries were reported or arrests made.

"Looting of a truck was reported. We are still waiting to confirm."

Tshwane metro police spokesperson Superintendent Isaac Mahamba said they had received reports of several shops being looted, but also had yet to confirm the incidents

Protesters 'confiscate' SABC equipment

SABC Morning Live anchor Leanne Manas on Friday tweeted that a news camera and other equipment had been "confiscated" by protesters in Atteridgeville.

She later tweeted that the news crew had managed to negotiate with protesters to get the equipment back.

"#Atteridgeville protestors say media portray them in a negative light & call it #xenophobia when all they want is to get rid of criminals," she tweeted.

A group calling itself the Mamelodi Concerned Residents was expected to march to the Department of Home Affairs in Pretoria on Friday to protest against immigrants in SA.

Security services said "scores of people" were expected to participate in the march.

Men carry sticks and rods

Law enforcement officers would be deployed along the route and at venues where a memorandum would be handed over, the police's National Joint Operational and Intelligence Structure said in a statement on Thursday.

A News24 reporter on the ground observed groups of people scattered around the area, with many gathering at the Marabastad bus depot for the start of the march.

Public order police were seen walking behind a group of young men wielding sticks and rods. Some had their faces covered.

On Saturday, residents of Pretoria West raided homes they alleged were being used as brothels and drug dens. They called for "pimps" to release prostitutes. Two houses were set alight.

On February 11, at least 10 houses allegedly being used for drug dealing and prostitution were set alight in Rosettenville, Johannesburg.

Locals claimed Nigerians were behind the criminal activity.

If memory serves: Leanne Manas can come and negotiate my "equipment" any time

lol Definitely the wrong way to go about things, just an excuse to loot.

So there is a protest march because of the criminal foreigners and then they hijack and loot a truck.
Who are the real criminals. I bet it'll be said they were intruders and not part of the peaceful protest.

Who on earth thought it would be a good idea to give permission for this march taking SA's xenophobic past into account and what are the chances that there won't be violence?

You want government to limit our freedom to protest and to speak because there might be violence?

Its a trend with all these protest. If you aren't with them for whatever cause then you are against them. Plus free stuff in the back of the truck.

Too bad they only have sticks and rods.
Take guns from the military and hand them out so they can thin the herd between themselves.

Stun grenades fired near Pretoria Home Affairs amid tense standoff

Johannesburg – Police and people marching against immigrants were locked in a tense standoff in the Pretoria CBD on Friday morning, with stun grenades going off near the Department of Home Affairs building.

A police helicopter hovered overhead and public order police officers weaved through the large crowd.

At one point, the group tried to push past the police.

Many in the crowd carried sticks, rods and other items.

One man told a News24 reporter on the ground: "The foreigners have real guns. They are selling drugs and prostitution and the municipality is helping them. They must leave."

Some foreign nationals faced the group, shouting at them.

Atteridgeville protests

Law enforcement officers will be deployed along the route and at venues where memorandums will be handed over, the police's National Joint Operational and Intelligence Structure said in a statement on Thursday.

Earlier on Friday morning, protesters blocked several streets in Atteridgeville, preventing residents from going to work and school.

Rocks were thrown and tyres were burnt.

Officials later cleared the debris so that traffic could flow freely.

Police spokesperson Lieutenant Colonel Lungelo Dlamini said the police could not confirm whether or not the protest was related to the march.

You want government to limit our freedom to protest and to speak because there might be violence?

Where did I say that?

My question was in two parts.
1) Who gave permission for a anti-immigrant march taking SA's xenophobic past into account?
SA has had violent xenophobic incidents over the last few years and the crap that I heard the people spew over the radio is just flaming the fires

2) What are the chances that there won't be violence?
We all know the answer here. The majority of South Africans can't march for anything without looting and destroying. There are only a small minority that do marches the correct way.

You want government to limit our freedom to protest and to speak because there might be violence?

what's this might be violence? I would wager there is a more of a chance of violence then not have violence.

so yes, limit the freedom of protest which might save millions in tax payers money as well as lives.

You want the ANC government to suspend the constitution?
