PRETORIA - Tensions are rising again in the wake of Friday morning’s violent march against immigrants.
In the last half hour in the Pretoria CBD, a group of people have tried to force their way into a supermarket owned by foreigners, saying they wanted to search it for drugs.
At the same time, police have been forced to form a fresh barrier between locals and non-nationals in Sunnyside, preventing another flare-up of violence.
Police have opened fire with rubber bullets and stun grenades to disperse protesters in Sunnyside.
Riot police have prevented protesters and foreigners from attacking each other.
Police say they stepped in when protesters started hurling stones.
The police had closed off an intersection in Sunnyside instructing the crowds to disperse but in turn the residents became angry.
The crowds are now singing struggle songs.
Meanwhile, a group of over 50 men are gathered outside one of the shops apparently owned by Pakistani nations.
Police stopped them as they tried to break into the store claiming there were drugs inside.
One man says they just want to search the building.
