anti inflammatory diet

meh can't think of anything for lunch now. Can't face anymore veg and chicken lol

Are you sure you aren't treating the symptoms here instead of the cause?

Have you gone to see a gastroenterologist or other gastro specialist? You should probably have a gastroscopy if the problem is bad enough for you to want to throw your entire diet out.

Chances are you might have a hernia or some other problem which is causing these issues for you. Old age simply isn't an accurate assumption to make, rather that your body might have fallen apart with old age and needs a fix or three.

yeah I'm under 30 :p

Seen a gastro who's going to take a look.

Garlic. Don't think anyone mentioned GARLIC.

A half spoon of Garlic with some Honey, a teaspoon or so tumeric mixed into a glass of milk. Do that and you anti-inflammatory without really having to change huge chunks of your diet too much.

LOL, half a spoon? You use half a spoon for a full meal, not for a drink. Eish, this one gonna stink...
:p

mrsC gets some inflammation issues and mainly around glutens, which are nearly impossible to avoid completely as it turns out that pretty much everything you can buy uses gluten as a preservative. It's a nightmare to avoid. Eggs are one of the best and most versatile things, and rice-based dishes can replace pastas pretty well. Even switching to rice cakes instead of breads makes a big difference.

what about genetically modified "foods".

is it possible they're also causing gastrointestinal problems?

Thankfully I've got the digestive tract of a car crusher. Delicious food goes in one end, fecal matter goes out the other end, and nary a whimper of discomfort in between.

Came across this just now, which may be helpful in figuring out if you're actually suffering from inflammation:

How to Tell If You’re Inflamed: Objective and Subjective Inflammatory Markers

As far as diet is concerned: just because a food contains something that's considered inflammatory, doesn't necessarily mean it will always have that effect on any particular person. There are apparently some tests for inflammation (as indicated in the link above), but generally one will have to experiment, to figure out what makes one feel like crap.

Sorry, I know that's not much help. :o

I dunno about potatoes. Often see them on the inflammatory side of it. Was surprised by honey. That scored very poorly on that site I linked to

Not sure what to replace rice and potatoes with. Nothing really fulling with wheat out the picture too :o

I cut out wheat for a while but I swapped normal pasta for corn pasta. It's not ideal because it has a high GL score but I found once you cut out wheat, the side-effects can be pretty harsh if you re-introduce it. You can swap rice for quinoa or cous cous if you aren't gluten sensitive. It takes a little getting used to.

Are all potatoes out of the picture? Wondering if sweet potatoes count? At least you can get/make sweet potato chips/mash if they are allowed.

I saw The Idiots Guide to anti inflammatory cooking, for R170 at a bookshop today.

Think that was the name, on local only so can't check right now.

Idiots guides are usually pretty good, I've read quite a few of them.

Thanks. So far nothing has come up with regard to food allergies or sensitivities. I see some labs offer tests for over 270 foods etc.

There's a guy at work who is allergic to wheat, dairy and a few other things.
I pretty much only see him eating avo and rice cakes.

Maybe go do those tests.

I went for some allergy tests once. They tested for 12 different things by poking holes in my arm and rubbing a different thing on each hole to see if there's a reaction.
That cost around R800.

I avoid any processed food. Even so called fresh milk is processed to hell and gone. Wheat Bix inflame my gut and give me terrible heartburn so I also avoid all wheat and gluten.

Raw milk, raw honey, fresh veggies, fish, chicken and a fat steak once a weak. I buy organic where possible to avoid pesticides and GM food.
