So about a year ago I "developed" this crazy allergy where I start to itch and my skin would get these red swolen patches. Did a blood test and it turned out to be the MSG in food I ate... It's so damn hard avoiding the stuff, especially if you dont eat at home all the time.

So the GP prescribed Desaway, it's not supposed to make you tired as the rest but it doesnt feel like it's working well enough. Anyone here who has similar experience and advice concerning a specific antihistamine?

You could try applying a cortisone cream to the affected areas to help with the inflammation in addition to the antihistamine.

I suffer from allergies (rhinitis mostly) nearly all year round and lately I have been using AP-Loratadine. I take one tablet if I am feeling allergies coming on and for the rest of the day I am sorted.

Allergex worked the best for my hayfever. Loratadine and Texa10 and that crap did NOTHING. Now, I've got Flonase nasal spray. Once in the morning, sorted.

Allergex works really well (better than anything else) for me but man it makes me sleepy (even though it says it isn't supposed to :(). Amazing that you say Texa10 didn't work I find those to be brilliant as well.

Just goes to show you how different meds work differently on different folks. Ultimately Carr0t your best bet is to try it all out and see which ones work best for you.

Hey man :) i have urticaria :) or however you spell it, also get the red welts! mine come every second day if i dont take tablets, but unluckily for me, they can't figure out what it is that causes it :/ their best guess was my body is allergic to temperature changes, so basically its always :P so i live on anti-histamines. The one that works best for me is xyzal, it doesnt make me tired, but i just take it every night before bed anyway, and i am hundreds :) no spots

applying cream, doesn't work, well it does, but trust me when these spots come you don't want to wait an hour for it to work, and you will need it often.

btw tried other ones like allergex/ telfast etc.. and they barely make it through to the end of the day.. i get spots by that night! I've lived on xyzal for 4 years now. And it is effective up to 2 days, so if i forget a day i don't die :P

My son had several allergies growing up ... and when he was just two there were several antio-histamines prescribed which we were to use depending on the severity of the allergic reaction.

The first line and mildest form was Zyrtec, followed by Atterax and then finally Vallergan. All syrups, we found that the Zyrtec was very mild whilst the Vallergan knocked him out completely. There are so many brands on the market, it's hard to really pin one down.

Atterax is very heavy stuff! That stuff will knock you out one time :)
