Antivirus Software?

norton is a hog on system resources and will slow your system down regardless of how much ram or what cpu you have. also avg's performance is on par with, if not better than, norton. and with norton one has to pay for virus definition updates after a few months. with avg its free for life

NOD32 has a 64-bit version, which would be my first recommendation, second would be Kaspersky (not sure if there is a 64-bit version).

What seems to be the issue(s) with Norton?

Thanks for the feedback.

I've / we've (my company) uninstalled Nortons from litterally hundereds of pc's... if you ever wonder why your PC is operating at half the speed it should... uninstall Nortons... no jokes.

I can also vouch for AVG free, clean interface and it works... you need nothing more for home SOHO use....

I can now personally vouch for NOD32, its great and absoloutley minimal on system recourses. It may look abit simple and uncustomizable, but it is in fact the best AV software around. I tested it myself against Avast, Kaspersky, Bitdefender, ZA Antivirus and a few more. It was just my personal choice and always comes out tops on the online virus ratings.

Problem is these days you NEED anti-spyware and a firewall too. So another app to check out would be Outpost Personal Firewall Pro. Better than ZA in my opinion.

Great for antispyware is Windows Defender, the new version of Microsofts antispyware. Problem is you have to have a genuine windows copy, no workaround or patch for it yet as far as I can tell. Otherwise i would be using that.

me also

Hi, i also use nod32, i can say it really kicks ass! :) hehehe
firewall, im using lavasofts personal firewall
adware, im using lavasofts ad-aware

cheers,
AS

Thanks for the feedback.

Norton/Symantec software not only hogs too much system resources, but also leaves a trail of crap in your computer, even after you uninstall.

You need to manually delete a lot of files and startup, services and registry entries... stay away from them...

 Don't use Trend Micro, Norton Anti Virus or AVG:eek: . I was using Avast! Anti virus for a long time and it worked very good. There is a free Home version at http://www.avast.com. I'm using Bitdefender now and don't have any problems as of yet. Its not a free version though. Version 8 is free, but doesn't have the same securities as the latest version.

I've got Avast Pro running and just installed ZoneAlarm Security Suite, it seems like an excellent protection system :)

I run AVG + Zona Alarm firewall on all computers. Works well and had no virus since using them...
