So here's the story:

December 2012 I decided to try out uncapped. I bought 1mb/s uncapped account from Afrihost(not line rental though, used line from Telkom 5gb account) and that's when trouble began.
I started noticing my line loosing internet connection for a few seconds then picking it up again.
This happened quite often.

January I went to Access, but the D/C issue stayed.
During all this time, when ever I called Telkom to complain all they did was re-create the port.

Feb, I went to Telkom 1mb/s uncapped as they dropped prices and now I could properly rage at them w/o them blaming the issue on Access or Afrihost.

Not to my surprise, the D/C stayed. by this time I already replaced my router, bought new tele cables for the house to rule out anything that may be my fault. I even had a technician come over, fiddle around and leave.

Called another one over, luckly this guy was more sympathetic and helpful and he said this in response to me telling him my line is uncapped.
"Uncapped?? ooooo then there is nothing I can do for you. You see Telkom throttles uncapped account heavily. The DC trend on uncapped accounts started with MWeb and now all the rest also do it."
Then he suggested that I move to a 20GB account ect.

Anyways I just wanted comfirmation that I am not the only one? because if they really do this to all uncapped accounts, why isn't anyone raging? I can't play online games like this. It's utterly ridiculous.
Oh, and I will add that the technician said he isn't actually allowed to tell me this. Makes sense why they only recreated the port every time I called.

I am not the most technically orientated guy on this forum, but the intermittent connection you have should not be related to throttling? Throtteling just means you should have lower connection speeds, the intermittent connection in my (humble) opinion has to be something with your line / the exchange.
On a side note, I am not sure about Telkom lines but my I've had no issues or complaints with RazoWeb (I thought I'd give the new guy on the block a try in January). I average 350GB a month and have never been throttled, in fact I'm actually pretty happy with what I get from them.

Absolute rubbish! OK there were hassles with TI soft-capping uncapped accounts in February but that was sorted and hasn't been reported in March.

Try testing with some axxess R19/GB capped to prove or disprove the techs theory.

Regarding your problem, if you're connecting wirelessly to your router that's your most likely suspect.

Otherwise place another call and if they don't fix it escalate the fault until it gets sorted.

Alright, thanks for the feed back.
Now that i'm sure that it's just me, I wont hold back on Telkom.

I connect via LAN cable and the internet light on the router itself gos off, so it's not wireless.
I'll ask directly for another technician to come out and make sure it's fixed instead of sucking up more excuses.

Thanks again

It could possibly be a faulty DSLAM or IMAX port in the exchange. Ask the tech to get you a new port assigned.
