Any cheap yet decent local PHP web hosting?

I am a perfectionist so for me it would.

I'd like to consider myself one too :-) What advantages do you find in shaving 100/200ms off local ping-time for websites? It's highly unlikely you'd notice any real difference in website load times, unless you're still using a dial-up connection.

Thats the ring about being a paranoid perfectionist it's not about you or the client it's about me knowing it can go faster I will not be able to sleep with that in my consciousness

I hear you. There are however still some reasons you might want to host offshore. Specifically in Europe. You might shave a 100ms off your ping for local customers hosting locally, but sometimes you might prefer to opt for some superior infrastructure elsewhere, or to have your data protected by superior privacy laws. Bottom line, it's not always so cut and dry.

UPDATE
Okay guys, today by midday my tickets were still not being attended to. So I decided to hit Axxess up on Facebook, they asked for my ticket numbers and account number, then promised me that someone will respond to my tickets. As of now, there's still nothing. For this reasons I have decided to leave them, however, there's an issue of a domain name. Are they going to allow me to transfer it to somewhere else? Guess I'll find out when they do decide to get back to me..

Anyway in the afternoon I checked Smartweb once more. Before I could commit to anything I decided to contact them to confirm few things. The customer service was great and they supported everything I wanted, except they don't allow the kind of site I have in mind. The site is a simple portfolio of a single musician; it will contain podcasts which will be hosted on Mixcloud, images - locally, videos - YouTube and mp3s (only 3 files of less 5MB) - locally. Apparently this is considered file sharing and not allowed..

Now it's either I go ahead and open an account with them and host mp3 files elsewhere or consider VPS which is out of my budget..

Try embedding your mp3 into the site? E.g. Soundcloud.
