Any companies using MS Lync?

We are using it too - been a while. Mostly use it for a quick chat - less noise in the office.

The screen sharing feature is great and helped greatly when I had to support users in another city.

Down side ... ppl expect an instant response when you are online. Also if status updates are enabled, the boss can see how long you've been away from your desk (not good if your tea time and lunch time is fixed). My boss had the status update notifications set for the whole team at one stage (luckily it only gives updates when you become available.

Used in our company across the country with 30,000+ users. I use it daily and believe it to be a great productivity booster, especially with all conversations logged to Exchange server - so accessible in your email.

Most of you guys using it with voip? Ie call directly from your pc?

Also, anyone using lync server as a VoIP pbx?

Yup, they replaced our desk phones with lync headsets some of us also use the plantronics phone that plugs into usb.

We also are using it at my company, about 8000 people using it and the rollout is still continuing. A very good piece of technology, especially the screen sharing.

Lync VoIP is also a great tool, it's easy to keep in touch with your team if you are on the move.

P.S. If you are in IT, don't give it to your business users! They like to ask for things via Lync rather than using official channels.

Basically like any other IM clients. We use Skype to communicate with certain people in our business and I do not accept people I don't 100% need on Skype.

Use it as well..

Its nice the way it integrates into the Global Address book... beyond that, its like any other IM client.

We also use Lync extensively. My only issue is its to expensive for SME to use.

We've been using it for about 3 years now, had to upgrade the network infrastructure (lan and wan) before rolling it out to the whole organisation (about 30k people).
The business case for it was pretty strong. Productivity and cost saving. Frees up quite a bit of their exchange servers, people not conversing over email as much.

We use it globally, 115 000 employees.

VoIP works well, even regional meetings with 400+ employees seems to work decently. Though for these we stick to our conference bridge for the audio, mostly because of the idiots who dont know how to mute their mics.

Lync Online, R18.70/user/month for the basic package which is IM and 1:1 VoIP only and R51.30/user/month for the full package that can conference call and has desktop/application sharing

That's pretty cheap for a SME compared to what a full blown On-Prem Lync Server setup is going to cost.

We use it, great to be able to show those dumb users where to navigate to things with the shared desktop.

Why not just get one of the Office 365 subscriptions with Lync?

That's also an option, Office 365 Enterprise E1 is R74.60/user/month or Office 365 Small Business which is R46.60/user/month but has a max of 25 users.
