So yesterday I was doing some gardening and wanted to remove a few large horrible thorny bush plant things.

While I was pulling and pushing the big one, I was pushing close base of the plant with my foot against a branch. This branch snapped and the entire stupid plant flung back and hit my middle finger on the top knuckle quite hard. It was flippin sore.

Today it is quite stiff and swollen, sore to move it, but no bruising, just a mark where the plant fought back. There is some mobility hampered by the swelling and some pain if I contract the finger.

I don't believe it broken, any ideas what it could be. I got a splint for it and then it feels 1 million times better. Also taking Ibuprofen for pain and swelling, working well, hardly notice anything with splint in.

I'm in UK, so not really lus to mission to hospital to have it checked just yet.

Make a small cut where your finger is swollen and put 100% alcohol on it. If you can find Q20 or something similar, spray that on. The oil gets rid of the infection similar to rust.

Uh...wtf bro. No. U make a small cut where it's swollen and take one of those small straws on a juice carton and stick it in there so the wound can breathe.

Often end up banging my fingers on the farm. Can be sore for weeks. Ice a few times a day and Ibuprofen (not for too long, a few days at most). Not much more they can do for you at the doctor anyway. Unless your finger goes purple or black and it bent at a funny angle or snapped.

If it looks like this, go to the A&E

Mallet finger is an injury to the thin tendon that straightens the end joint of a finger or thumb. Although it is also known as "baseball finger," this injury can happen to anyone when an unyielding object (like a ball) strikes the tip of a finger or thumb and forces it to bend further than it is intended to go.
Treatments: Splint (medicine)

PS: I am not a doctor but a rocket scientist.

Well, this seems more doctorish than WD40

Nothing serious.

Try the hot/cold treatment.

Ice pack for a while, then switch to head pack for a while, then back to ice rinse and repeat.

I usually don't seek medical attention with those types of injuries. I'll just tape the finger or toe to the next one. Sometimes with an awesomely bludgeoned purple swollen toe it can take a few weeks to recover. Some time ago I drilled through my thumb though and that time it was likely good I went in as they gave a tetanus shot.

Serious injuries usually swell really excessively. When I fractured my kneecap it really swelled up and they drained about a tea cup of blood (literally used a tea cup, it was a government hospital)

Legally speaking though of course if you are really concerned about it then you should see a doctor.
