Hi,

I moved my company offices and the previous guys left some equipment behind. I contacted the people that were previously at my new offices and they don't want the equipment and it was supposed that their ISP was responsible to remove/recover the equipment.

I contacted the ISP and they don't know nothing about the equipment.

The previous people moved out of the building on feb/march 2012 (almost one year ago).

Now I have this lovely piece of junk that I don't know what to do with it.

Any suggestions? or Any takers?

(as you may imagine, there is a lovely antenna decorating the roof).

Click on the LINK to see the piece of junk.

You should put a warning on this thread for people with limited bandwidth, I think loading all these massive pictures may cost somebody their monthly Vodacom budget.

EDIT: Forgot to mention that you should please resize those images :D

Looks like some 19" rack-mounted computer equipment.

If it comes with dish antenna it could well be parts of a radio link to the ISP, normally used as a back-up for when Telkom has an outage.

Call the previous tenant's ISP again, ask if they provide backup radio links: that should answer your question.

NB: They could very well be damaged components. Techies have a habit of leaving the bust units behind for the clients to trash.

Google Ericsson Mini-Link to see if you can find it otherwise you can send them a pic and I'm sure they can tell you exactly what it is.

Is it really necessary to post such large images? There are things called "thumbnails"!

It's a Ericsson Mini Link Chassis used for radio/microwave comms depending on the installed modules.

The unit on top of the chassis with the wires running to the chassis is a 240VAC to 48VDC power supply as used by most telecoms gear.

The module plugged into the top left slot NPU3 B is a Network Processing unit with a E1 (2Mb/s) interface and two 10/100/1000 Mb/s Ethernet interfaces. This module acts as the router and management for the chassis.

The MMU2 H module plugged into the bottom right slot is the Modem Unit with high capacity PDH & Ethernet comms supporting various modulation schemes.

They go for about US$2000-2500 on eBay.

Ok, sorry for the large pics.

The hardware is for a Wireless microwave connection as per google results (im not going to mention the isp) and it was used as a primary connection. The unit is actually working, but i have no knowledge on how to test it. (Yeah, i plugged it, it started, connect the ethernet cable, play with some ip numbers, but nothing happen).

I'm gonna see if can find some software in order to get to the management module or something like that.

As I said before, i contacted the ISP, but to use it as a backup (or primary) connection I require a full site survey and full installation. They don't care that the infrastructure is already there. And the price was very high (over R7000 for unlimited traffic and around R5000 for installation).

I would love to see if the device (with the antenna) can be used as a point to point bridge. (But i'm sure that i will need another set of hardware/antenna to make it work).

Any suggestions are welcome.

Go back and edit large pics...will help response rate. Gonna be pretty k.a.k with those those big pics.

> They don't care that the infrastructure is already there.

Tell them to gtfo. If hardware is compatible them they must make a plan price wise.

> they don't want the equipment

Get this in writing. If not leave the gear the fck alone. Legal issues if you don't have a letter clearing it.

Ok, I apologize for the large pictures. I changed the pictures to a link to a PDF file in google docs.

Anyway... I was reading some manuals that I found on the internet and it seems that it works on the 6Ghz to 38 Ghz bands, which means that is... LICENCED. So, only the approved licencee can use it.

I think I'm hitting the wall here. Nobody will be able to use it.

I will contact again the ISP to see if I can get some feedback from them. Otherwise it can go to recycling, unless somebody can suggest something.

I found a nice presentation about the device on this link:
