I need an opinion on this.

I think my 25 year old adoptive cousin has some sort of mental condition, and I think it had to do with her upbringing.

She was almost never allowed to go out by her parents and was only allowed to go to school or on trips with the family. All other times she was confined to her parents' house. There are two houses on the plot so at least she could go to the other house which my other cousin (her sister) lives in with her husband and three kids.

If she needed to go somewhere or needed to do something she had to bunk school.

To give you an idea, the first time she ever saw the inside of a club was when she was 23. Her social circle consists almost entirely only of family members

Just some of her characteristics that come to mind:
- she will look for any opportunity to make conversation - she talks a lot!
- to add to the above point, she sometimes misses to attend an important event because she's completely consumed in a conversation with someone. She forgets things because of talking so much.
- mood swings, sometimes quite extreme
- very confrontational, always want to be right. However, I think this is genetic
- dropped out of school after failing a few times, and as such is only trying to piece her life together now.
- very nosy
- a drama queen. The other day people were arguing outside and she started jumping and shouting "People are fighting!", almost giving me a heart attack
- very unorganized.

I don't know if there is something I can and should do to try and help. Don't get me wrong, she's not really a bad person, but I have this feeling that, socially, she hasn't developed to the level she should have been at this age.

What are your views?

Doesn't need a shrink.
Just to be socialised properly. And loved for who she is. And that starts with engaging her, accepting her, and living with her foibles. We all have 'em. It's all part of making space for people, and it starts by enlarging our interiors and developing tolerance.

Good point. Maybe I'm over-thinking things a bit.

Sounds like she had stunted development and needs a psychologist to help teach her life skills and other applications.

Doesn't sound like a mental condition like mine.

Also talking a lot might be a way to hide her feelings inside without showing it and talking a psychologist will open her up.

Agreed. Saw it with a guy who was homeschooled and started campus with us this year. At the beginning, it was really weird, and he didn't know what to do/say when people were together. 10 months down the line and he's actually quite used to it now. Still a bit of a loner though.

Shrink ... - I don't think a psychologist or psychiatrist will respond to this thread if he/she is referred to with this disrespectful term.

It is? I always thought its just a slang term for a psychologist/psychiatrist

These can be attributed to the fact that she is a woman. :p

It is a slang term for them and in the dictionary so don't think it is they usually don't put them in the main dictionaries if they offensive.

If I check the K word it says offensive slang, but not for Shrink.
